Description Here's a new addition and somewhat of the opposite of the clear one. A dark violet emerald, due to it's color composition, absorbs most of the light that passes through it. Only intrense rays of light make it through, giving an almost ultraviolet/black light effect. Intriguing to say the least =]

6 down, one more to go. The ruby one seems to be the most elusive of them all. Not quite sure why...

i know the feeling of the red one being elusive... a question thought, are your emeralds colored glass or are they simply painted?

This is exactly the bases for my Eureka Seven/Sonic Riders: Zero Gravity - a black chaos emerald! Lovely!

Wonder what'll happen once you get the ruby one. XD

hmmmm, these Emerald Study pictures remind me of that old movie, The Rescuers, when Penny finds the Devil's Eye (a diamond), and when it was hit with light, she and the cave were covered in specs of light.

It's called an "emerald" in reference to a "chaos emerald" from the Sonic the Hedgehog video games. It's true that "emerald" refers to a green precious stone in real terms but they apparently chose to use that term in a more general way.

Chaos emeralds are able to have quite a variation of color in them.

Thanks for the comment. =] *bows*

Yes I've been collecting them over the passed three years or so. I bought them from open markets around the Philippines so they weren't that expensive.

That's a colour I haven't seen in such an intense shade. You're a luci-mancer, Chem.

I'm sure you explained it before or earlier but I wasn't listening~~ ^_^;; could I ask what this is about? It's very very interesting I think

chemb0t In reply to Skyistheguy [2006-09-27 06:20:57 +0000 UTC]

That's okay. You can just read my description here on the first picture. [link]

Basically it's a series of pictures that show the properties of translucent objects such as these emeralds and how light behaves around them. It's also a good reference for those who wish to try their hand at drawing these objects with more realism.

This one is quite interesting too. It isn't translucent like the other photos are and I like the angle you captured the emerald in.
