Description
Since a few friends of mine thought this was useful, I've decided to post it up on dA :'DDDon't mind the messiness, and this may not be 100% accurate but it's how I choose my own colours.
Be daring to experiment with different bases, shades and highlights.
Hope it helps!

Thank you very much for having this! Is there an updated version I should look for? (Only since this was done in 2012. You might have refined things, if I make sense.)Β
I'm having a lot of trouble with my colors being sorta flat, playing with this seems like it could help greatly!Β

For the purple and blue examples, did you only change the hue or did you change hue and value?

Oh, I think I usually change both- I just pull the slider to whichever colour I find suiting? Sorry if it doesn't make much sense but usually it's a trial and error thing for me too xDD

That's ok.Β I'm just happy I'm not alone regarding this.Β I generally hate color and I used to avoid it like the plague but I forcing myself to do it everyday is training me to learn color relationships.Β How about when to use saturation?Β Like when it's a night scene in a meadow and the only source of light is the moon, when is using saturation okay?Β Like it looks too out of place but without it there is not enough contrast?

Lol I see xD Well I try to use saturation whenever I can? Again it's trial and error for me-- Hmm I just try to make the picture pop more is all pfft. And usually I ignore some of the lighting rules /bad at it too ahahah

Thank you so much
I don't even colour digitally, but my painting teacher always gives out to me for using too much black and white paint for shading and highlights. Looking at this I can clearly see why. They can really dull down an image.
Thank you so much for this

you always shade and color so beautifully, so thank you for these tips ^^ do you usually determine the color schemes by playing around with the colors to see what looks best?

Haha, awesome. It's great to see more tutorials that actually explain how to shade instead of recommending the use of dodge and burn.
