FLCL's Canti on a garbage throneAnother try at digital painting. I'm still a bit slow but i'm getting the hang of it >_>;
This piece is actually inspired by this sketch I drew a half a year ago. At the time I had a bad case of art block, and only posted it on a whim.
Surprisingly people liked it. And through that shocking relevation, it gave me enough confidence to end my art block. True Story.

This look great! You've really improved like LIGHTYEARS, Steph!! O_O
I love the subtle lighting and the contrast of the garbage pile that really pops Canti out. The only crit I'd give is that the perspective on his mech legs look rather wonky, and I'd like to see some reflections in his screen/face. Maybe even some rainwater on it?

I had some trouble with that perspective actually lol. Hmm... I don't know what I can do more to the screen without making it look too fake. But i'll definitely try some raindrops. *_*

It's a really good piece. It maintains its integrity as a piece of line/sketch art I think pretty successfully without screaming "digital" 
What I also like is that you don't have to understand the reference to enjoy the image for its mood and subtle humor. That umbrella is priceless

Thaaank yooou! I'm glad you approve since I was worried about about the lineart look in a digi-painting! :D Lol is there really a canon "digital" look out there? It's hard for me to tell in a lot of art nowadays. But i'm glad you think it blends well <3

I don't think there is really one approach to digital painting or using digital tools to color. I think how it's done reflects the perspective of the artist and their training. If you look at a lot of "Corel Painter" users, they are traditional painters who migrated to digital media. They'll have foundational sketches, but those disappear with the way they layer their paints.
THen I've seen comic book colorists and animators also come in and leave the line. That's partly because they are asked not to to mess with the inked works.
Anyways, this was a solid picture... not the technique only, but the overall picture, emotion and message
