You could barely restrain yourself from looking at Jessie with a very suggestive facial expression. He tried to escape your gaze by facing the other direction. A snicker escaped your lips.
"That is freaking adorable! See, I told you it won't be too bad, didn't I?" you asked and nudged him.
"Y-yeah. Sorry for not listening, I guess my fear of any SCP that's anything else than a 'safe' object blocked my vision on what I am supposed to focus on. It should be common sense that the foundation would keep him locked up good so that he won't breach containment."
"Did you show 049 the card?"
Jessie took said card out of the pocket of his lab coat, hesitating to give any kind of answer. He shrug his shoulders.
"Well, I accidentally dropped it, but I don't know if he saw it..."
You nodded slowy.
"But you will show it to 049, right? During an interview?"
"I have the feeling that I have to. After all, Dr. Gordon is so fascinated by this, she would probably fire me if I don't do it, haha." Jessie took a sip from his coffee, sighed and let his shoulders hang low. He looked way more relaxed, which made you feel better in return. You smiled at him.
"I'm glad you feel better now. Maybe you will even help the foundation to find out more about 049! You could be a hell of a researcher!"
Jessie scoffed, laughing into his cup of coffee.
"Don't be silly, I'm a nobody here. All I want to do is learn, earn money and help my family out with that." Jessie finished his coffee and food and returned the dirty dishes. You went ahead, waiting for him at the stairs.
"You send money home? That's really nice of you!" your voice echoed through the hallway. Jessie looked at the ground, scratching his chin with a kind of nervous face.
"Yeah, they are... sort of in debt because of me, so... you could say that I feel guilty and want to help them that way..."
You made a confused sound.
"Because of you? What did you do, purposefully burn down a building?"
Your friend's face changed from nervous to terrified. His eyes wandered from your face down to the ground and into the hallway. You tilted your head as he took a deep breath.
"Uhm, well no... But I... uh..." his gaze was jumping from one end of the hallway to the other. His nervousness rubbed on to you; you leaned in to look at him closer. He was still avoiding your face. A sigh escaped your lips.
"You know, you don't have to tell me if you are uncomfortable. I just hope your family isn't too much in debt." you tried to smile encouragingly. Jessie slowly turned his head towards you, his eyes scanning your face as if he would be considering something. He clicked his tongue.
"Eh, I guess you would find out sooner or later anyways. The truth is..." he checked both sides of the hallway for any person who could possibly eavesdrop. Jessie turned his attention back to you, keeping his voice down.
"... I, uh, I am a transgender boy. And my family payed my surgery and are currently paying my hormone therapy. So now I feel like I sorta owe it to them, y'know?"
You looked up and down on Jessie, a mixture of feelings in your gut and a whole list of things to say in your head. You managed to smile nervously. What could you say now? Or rather, what CAN you say now? All kinds of words and sentences raced through your mind, every single one of them reconsidered with your own critical standpoint. Your head was spinning so much, all you managed to get out of your mouth was a brainless "Huh."
Jessie's worried eyebrows caused his forehead to wrinkle. He was clearly waiting for a response. But, again, all you managed to do is smile a goofy smile and say "Huh."
"Are you... that speechless?" he asked carefully. You nodded.
"Do you hate me now?"
You shook your head.
"Are we still friends?"
You closed your eyes, your smile changing from goofy to soft. Taking a step towards the young researcher you embraced him, patting his back reassuringly.
"Bro, you good. Im just... kinda awkward. I don't want to offend you with something I say on accident."
Jessie laughed barely hearable. You could feel shaking arms entwine around your waiste. A warm wetness on your shoulder seeped through your lab coat. Jessie twitched and weeped into your shoulder. He didn't need to say a thing. You could tell the ammount of pressure that just dropped down from his back. He must've been through a lot because of this. It hasn't been too long since you joined the foundation but from what, and especially who, you saw and encountered, most people here would probably take advantage of something like this. Heck, people thirst for blood because someone 'took away' their subjects, what kind of terrible thought process would they birth when they find out that someone was trans. Especially someone like Alvin or those researchers from before would use this kind of information for their own good. You stroke Jessies back, allowing him to let out his tears.
The sound of an opening door made the two of you jolt in surprise. You turned around, standing in front of Jessie in case that whoever was entering would make fun of him crying. The person who walked through the door was the guard from a few days ago. He barely looked at the two of you as he made his way past you and towards the next door, his boots causing an echo on the hard floor. He rose his hand, ready to push the button, but hesitated. A moment of silence filled the hallway. Then, the man turned around, an expressionless face glaring at both Jessie and you.
"I don't think that this is the right place to do this." he mumbled.
You rose an eyebrow. Jessie sniffed and frantically wiped away his tears.
"What do you...?" you started, but the man interrupted.
"They are watching."
A quick nod hinted at a camera that was attached to the ceiling. The little red lamp blinked as the camera scanned the hallway. You looked back at the guard.
"Just as a heads-up. Don't give them any opportunity to take advantage of you. Keep your emotions to yourself until you are home. Protect yourself."
The guard waved his hand, pressed the red button and disappeared into the next hallway. Your eyes kept starring at the door the guard went through, watching it close behind him. "I really can't read that guy." you said, turning back around to face Jessie. His eyes were red from crying and wiping away tears, making the blue in his eyes shine even brighter in contrast. He nodded.
"But I understand where he's coming from. This whole place is corrupted with twisted people. I would be better off with crying into my pillow at home." he snickered halfheartedly. A sigh escaped your lips.
"Guess you're right. Who knows who was watching us right now. And if they can hear us. Are you alright, though?"
"Yeah... I'm fine. By the way, thanks for not hating me. And for allowing me to cry into your shoulder. You really are a cool person, (y/n). But, uhm, sorry for ruining your lab coat." he pointed at your coat and a small wet stain where his tears met your clothes. You shrugged it off.
"I doubt anyone can see it. That's the good thing about white clothing!" you gave Jessie a thumbs up, making him laugh. You joined in as you made your way out of the hallway, not midning the camera that was following you two.
Somewhere, in a distant corner of the complex, a shadowy figure was standing in front of flickering screens. Each of them showed a different part of the foundation. The now almost empty cafeteria, the classroom that was currently cleaned up by a cleaning lady, SCP-049s containment cell with 049 sitting on the floor and humming, the hallway that you and Jessie are currently walking through... Everything was out in the open for only certain people to see, nothing could be hidden away. The figure watched you and Jessie move freely through the complex.
"This one." the figure said, pointing at you on the screen. "Zoom in."
A guard, their face covered with a helmet, pressed a button, zooming in on your grinning face. The face of the figure showed a sneaky smirk.
"Yes. The new one... They would be perfect."
The figure turned around, their lab coat waving along with the motion.
"Contact Dr. Gordon immediately! I want this 'researcher' to be our next little project for SCP-035!"
A small person in a lab coat nodded and dashed out of the dark room. The figure turned back around, slowly walking towards the guard who is in charge of managing the monitors and cameras. Their shark like grin grew wider with each step they took.
"Let's see how easy they are to manipulate..."

I personally think ""Manipulating" to the foundationΒ is more like trying to get researchers to do what is right but debatible in Mr possesives case since face acid and mind erasure hurts
