Description This one was even more fun to make! After studying teeth yesterday I decided to use what I'd just learned to correct some of my own work and see if the product was any better. I think it's helped a lot! Again, I hope this is helpful in some way It's a bit wordy. It's probably not completely 100% accurate but it covers most anatomy issues, I think.

My references used to make this:
sta.sh/2mxcamkmsz

Here's the first part of the guide, or what got me started on this:

And here's a guide on snarls n stuff

The paintings I corrected:

I like this, it reminds me of that comic The Dreyrugr (I'm probably misspelling it).

This is a great tutorial; thank you for making this.

I do have one question though, and it is regarding IA and IB. In IA, you have the correct example with the top two canines curved a bit outward. However, in IB, you have them with no curve outwards. Which one would be more anatomically correct? I was kind of confuzzled about that one. @_@

Hey there, thank you!

That's a good question! I think drawing them curved is more natural and it's always bothered me how straight the canines are but apparently it's the correct way. I drew them too curvy in the first example and they shouldve been a bit more like these:
sta.sh/21jgvqpzqydj

So basically, the straighter looking canines are more correct Which I had forgotten about LOL so I'm glad you asked! They only curve -slightly-

Ah, okies! Thank you for the information. And no worries; your fangs are fine! It is simply stylized art, and it can really bring out a piece to begin with. :3

Now I knew my way of drawing teeth wasn't realistic, but now I can pay at least a bit more attention to it c:

hey you, I'm glad this was helpful! I feel the same way! my ways of drawing teeth have always been kinda stylized and mostly guesswork but I'm gonna start putting more effort into em.
P.S. your teeth always look really pretty MM

Chickenbusiness In reply to Guiokami [2015-08-04 18:01:52 +0000 UTC]

Thank you! And I struggle with snarls too. I've learned anatomy and expressions with snarls but it's very difficult for me to actually translate those into my drawings. Like, I KNOW where the teeth should be and where the lips should curl but it takes a lot of effort to put it on paper.

Ahh this will be great! I find I tend to find drawing open canine mouths pops up a lot for commission work so this should hopefully help a bit. Thank you for making this. Also I love that you didn't make this snarky or condescending at all to people who make anatomy errors, it's really great ^^

Chickenbusiness In reply to anatiidae [2015-08-04 01:14:17 +0000 UTC]

Eee, i'm glad to hear this might be helpful! And yeah me too! I've gotten a lot of orders with snarly and open mouthed wolves so it was important for me to practice some more with this
Also of course no snarky comments! It'd be weird, especially when I make anatomy errors all the time hahaha!

anatiidae In reply to Chickenbusiness [2015-08-04 01:16:34 +0000 UTC]

Ahh it's no problem, we all make mistakes ^^
It's amazing to see that you can evaluate yourself as an artist without losing self-confidence too. One thing is to be critical of your own work but then it's another to be so critical of it that it gets you down if that makes sense.
