< rant >
Because it's just plain rude and obnoxious.
It goes both ways, of course. There's extremists and hate on both sides -- the religious and not religious. But really, it's extremely tiresome to find a nice piece of art with the topic of religion or no only to find someone attacking other commenters about their beliefs.
For instance: A person comments on a piece of art with religion as it's topic. They mention their beliefs, the creator responds, and they're having a convo about the religion or lack of. Then a new commentor leeches off and starts attacking one of them for what they believe in or not believe in, accusing them of things and just being outright obnoxious.
tl;dr: It's one thing to voice your opinion; it's another to be a complete ass about it.
< / rant >
Inspired by comments on my last stamp and what I've seen in the comments from recent religion / anti religion art works :V
C'mon people. Religious folk and non religious folk can get along. It's not that hard :'D If I, a sixteen year old Christian, can do it with my various wonderful friends of many beliefs or lack thereof, I'm sure the rest of ya'll can
EDIT: I realize that the stamp itself is rather broad, which is why I tried to be more specific in the artist's comments. There still seems to be some misunderstanding though, so I'll try to clear it up here.
I'm not saying that I discourage confronting people. I'm merely saying that I don't support outright attacking people. You're not going to win someone over by bursting in guns blazing and spitting out nasty things at them. All you're gonna do is make them think you're an ass. However, confronting a person in a civil manner is more likely to get them to listen to you.
EDIT2: I was wondering why I was getting constant faving, only to find that this stamp has gotten onto the second page of 24 hours
EDIT4: Featured~!

I had similar reactions. I wrote a letter to the editor in my college paper expressing my opposition to gay marriage. I tried to be polite about my view but then the paper published a response to my letter from a former teacher. She basically insulted me. Even though I said I didn't want to harm gays, she said I did harm them with my words that "stung like knives." She said that I could have an opinion on anything under the sun that's a choice but being gay isn't a choice. In other words, I could have an opinion until it goes against gay rights agenda.

I saw a girl get mad once, because her aunt was sick in the hospital, and one of her friends said 'I'll keep her in my prayers.'
The girl got so pissed off about it, and told the other that her god wasn't going to do anything, and I got pretty mad at that.
I may not be religious, but someone telling you that they are going to keep you in their prayers is about the sweetest thing they can do. Someone is going to ask their god, a being that they believe to be the highest, to make sure that you, your friend, your family member, or someone that you care about is safe and healthy, and you're going to get angry over that just because you don't share the same beliefs? Ugh.Β
This works the other way as well, obviously. Basically everyone around me but my immediate family is religious, and they all accept that my mothers are gay and had three children (1 is bisexual and all are atheists). It kind of surprises me that my grandparents are more open-minded than some of the kids my age that I've seen.Β
I wish the world didn't work this way, but for now, I guess we'll just have to keep trying to make it stop.Β

I'm an athiest and one of my best friends is a Devout Christian. We're both aware our differences in religious beliefs and we accept our differences and coexist like civilized human beings. Instead of focusing on why we're different we instead focus on why we're similar (we both have Asperger's Syndrome, we both like anime etc.). I'm really glad she's my friend because she helps me be a better person, and I'm sure she feels the same way.

Very true, some people think it's okay to treat people badly because of their religion. People have also used the excuse that religion is a choice so they can be insulted or treated badly because of what they believe. That being said, I also hate it when people use religion as an excuse to treat people badly especially Christianity because Christians are supposed to show people love and mercy even when they don't deserved it like God did for us. Sure, I don't always treat people the way I should but I'd never use my religion to excuse treating people badly.

I see it as a two-way street; I will respect others' religions and beliefs off the bat and I expect the same in return, as I'm athiest and have an open mind about many things. However, if someone is going to be a d!ck about what I believe in (ex: attacking me with all sorts of bullcrap about me dissing god and going to hell), I shall then attack back. Naturally.

You know, I was talking with a Muslim friend of mine on Skype today and what I learned from her is that Christians in the Middle East are MUCH different than Christians in Western Society. And yes, Christians in the Middle East are legally accepted in their societies such as Syria, Lebanon, Iraq, Iran, Palestine, etc. but I can't say I'm the most informed about this.
Even though I'm an Atheist, I have to say that the problem is NOT religion, but rather our U.S./Euro-centric views when it comes to religion. Meaning that a lot of Western Christians (mostly U.S. Christians) tend to repeat racist and bigoted propaganda while Christians from Latin America, Asia, Africa and the Middle East (the origin of Christianity) are much nicer and more kind-hearted. The same thing can be said with Atheism, with a lot of New Atheists (that is the term for Atheists who act high and mighty about their atheism) bragging about how secular Western society is compared to that of the Middle East.

Unfortunately, this is inevitable. I don't believe that people can voice their opinions without getting punched somehow. There will be always someone to disagree with their point of view and always someone to argue with. I think its natural for people to disagree and argue over contreversial topics. But I get that the violent disagreement is bad though, things can get ugly.

You do know that it's not that simple for everyone to get along right? For example (not ranting on this religion at all I'm just saying what they truly believe in [and I also do know that not all believe this but most do]), Muslims BELIEVE that GOD wants them to KILL or at least PERSECUTE Jews and Christians out of EXISTENCE right? That's pretty hard for them to just declare "WELL I GUESS GOD WAS JUST JOKING!". Also it's pretty hard for ANY person with extremist views to change their ways. Most (maybe all) have grown up that way and would be FORCED into it or they truly believe in it and they will NOT turn back on ANY circumstances. And this is also going towards Athiest who go against religion in a whole.

First of all, thanks *ChikitaWolf for the stamp! Great message!
Second (in response to !Wiseau ): Sorry, but Muslims believe that God wants them to kill or at least persecute Jews and Christians out of existence?? I dont know where you heard that from, but that's a total rubbish! I'm muslim, grew up as muslim, and those words of yours is a complete alien to me.. Do you know etymologically the root word of "Islam" means "peace", and TRUE muslims will NEVER kill nor harm any human beings. Those are big sins! Islam encourages peace, mercy and forgiveness. Killing innocent people totally contradicts the teachings of Islam.
The Quran states: "...Whoever kills an innocent soul it is as if he killed the whole of Mankind. And whoever saves one, it is as if he saved the whole of Mankind..." (Chapter 5 Surah Al Maidah, Verse 32).
Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said: "One who kills a non-Muslim person will not even smell the fragrance of Paradise." and βWhoever hurts a non-Muslim person, I am his adversary, and I shall be an adversary to him on the Day of Resurrection.β.
And let me tell you, TRUE muslims always practice tolerance to other beliefs (either other religions / atheist), as one chapter of The Quran said: "Say: O disbelievers! I worship not that which ye worship; Nor worship ye that which I worship. And I shall not worship that which ye worship. Nor will ye worship that which I worship. Unto you your religion, and unto me my religion." (chapter 109 Surah AL-KAFIROON (The Disbelievers) verses 1-6)
I know you are just one of many many many people who have misunderstanding to Islam, just in case you are curious to know what the true Islam is, I recommend you to check this link out. Peace be upon you all!

Odd, considering I have many friends with different beliefs on religion - or lack of religion c:
And I've met really nice Muslims here online, as well as bumped into a few in real life. None of them have tried to kill me Not all Muslims are terrorists, ya know. I don't know enough about their book to say whether or not it demands others be killed or not, but like I said, I have yet to be killed by any of the kind Muslims I've met!
π: 0 β©: 1
Wiseau In reply to ChikitaWolf [2012-05-12 01:03:16 +0000 UTC]
I never said Muslims were terrorist nor did I say that they ALL hate Jews, and since you are ignorant to their religion you can not talk about it (coming from a person that DID read the Koran). And Islam states in its holy book that Jews are SIN and that they deserve to be KILLED and that GOD (and if you dare say they say Allah I will destroy you because Allah just means god in Arabic so it's still the same thing) grants them PERMISSION to MURDER Jews. Again I have HIGH respect towards Islam, in fact for a while I was planning on converting to Islam for a while but decided not to.

ChikitaWolf In reply to Wiseau [2012-05-12 01:11:13 +0000 UTC]

LMAO, even I know Allah means God
Ah, so you're soul-searching then? How're you doing so far in that? (If you don't mind me asking - I'm curious for those who soul-search |D )
π: 0 β©: 1
Wiseau In reply to ChikitaWolf [2012-05-12 01:15:32 +0000 UTC]
What are you even talking about anymore, the only reason why I said don't say they call Allah god is because I didn't want you to say it. And also I've never said I was 'soul-searching' them (whatever that may mean) I've only researched (A LOT) on Islam, their religion. And also their book IS their religion meaning you couldn't even talk about it AT ALL. Also like I've stated BEFORE not ALL Muslims go against others, in fact some try to CONVERT others other then KILL them and some ARE very nice and don't even practice that. But A LOT do which is what I am talking about, it's not that easy to get that percentage of Muslims and tell them "HEY THAT PRACTICE IS WRONG AND YOU SHOULDN'T DO IT" and for them to accept that. They would probably go on a mad riot and destroy you.
