Stamp by *ChikitaWolfTheme obviously from here
Okay. Well, if it's not, it's gotta be close, cuz I honestly see this everywhere. Though having this topic constantly discussed, bashed over, and ranted over would only be natural on an art site like dA
I'm not really complaining about it to be honest. I've just been seeing it a lot more in stamps and such =w= (It's stalking me. Seriously
Though I guess I'd rather see discussions on this rather than the flamage and bashing over porn, fangirls, "unworthy" stuff on the front page, "unworthy" DDs, homosexual rights, feminism, yaoi / yuri hatred, trollage, religion... and Obama.
Yeah. I went there.
Bleh. I'm tired. Enjoy this random stamp |3
Cuz it'll probably be the only one 'til this weekend. Thanks to our teachers trying to kill us with homework (and they wonder why we're not excited at our high school pep rallies? Seriously? PFFFFF).
EDIT: Featured~!

As someone who has had their characters/work ripped off more than once I can relate to that aha ha--
Although personally I've seen more debate lately over representation and misrepresentation - not that that's a bad thing to put in the limelight. A good topic to focus on, really.Β

*chuckles* Well my friend hit me over the head for not considering myself an artist because I'm a writer not a drawer. XD Guess the term of art can be rather broad. ^^

Writers are definitely artists xD
I'm primarily a writer myself, although I've gotten into drawn art these last few years.
We just paint pictures with words

well, one thing art is not is only drawings.
art can be things from dancing to, to cooking, to non-brutal combat. (like fencing)

Well, I don't know what art is, but I have an opinion as to what it isn't: everything. Not everything is art and I really dislike when people say that. Andy Warhol created an "art piece" in which he simply filmed himself eating a Whopper ([link] ). Yoko Ono created an "art piece" in which she literally screamed into a mircophone for a couple of minutes ([link] ). This French origami artist created an "art piece" by grabbing a blank piece of paper from his desk and folding it once.
I say that everything is not art because then that takes away from the dignity of art that has effort and love put into their creation. When I look or listen to art, I want to enjoy something that isn't common place in my everyday life. I don't want to see something mundane, like taking a dump or hanging up a blank canvas.
Those are just my thoughts.

I grew up hearing that art is anything you want it to be, from drawings, to scribbles, to sculptures because in their eyes its art work. Scribbles to a little kid is art while adults or older kids might just call it a bunch of lines scribbled around. Even photography is art, it shows the beauty of the world, so it makes it art. Even fan art is well art :'D it has the word art in it so~ yeah pretty much XD I say art is pretty much anything and anything you take time on to complete.
Well this feels like a total art rant now, so I'll just shut up now :L

Haha, that's along the lines of what my mom told me She always said when I was younger I would draw what looked like scribbles, but apparently I claimed to see something entirely different and unique in it |D

Exactly! Art can be anything, even "scribbles"! My sister takes pride in her little drawings, even though they look like scribbles to me and I just call it art because she spent time on it and it makes her feel happy.

Oh, yes It's rather fun to ask what they see in it as well. I remember being in a mixed grade afterschool program where the little kids will draw all kinds of things. It was fun to hear what they said was in their drawing, even if you couldn't necessarily see it yourself

I always thought art was a way to express yourself or bring out the emotions in others. Then I see some other people. Some people will appreciate other styles, but they will reject other styles. I usually think artists that really love art will love all forms of art... but oh well... People can think what they like... That's just me...

This is how I look at it:
Person 1: What is Art?
Person 2: Anything but fan art, photography, and nudity.
Person 3: Anything not furry.
Person 4: PIE.
Person 5: Anything that I draw is art, everything else is shit.
Person 1: That's not how to think of it!
Person 5: FUCK YOU.
Person 6: PONIES.
Person 7: Art is anything that can be protected by the first amendment.
Person 8: There is no such thing as art, everything is shitty and stupid.
Person 4: Is the shit that happens really shit?
Person 1: Argh...
Myself: And then I wonder why I come to this site these days...
That's basically how I look at the whole debate. There's too many different answers and depending on the amount of "Self-worth" and ego of the person, the views are adjusted to cater to a specific idea.

Really? I never thought I could make people have a laugh...
But for the most part, that's just how I tend to see and feel about the whole "what is art" debate. The problem really just stems from the fact that nobody believes in a universal standard. I mean, I've seen some things like "all fan fiction is shit" or "abstract art is stupid" or "they drew that for a popularity rush!" Considering that almost everything that's been created by humans has some kind of artistic meaning behind it.
Of course, there's the True Art tropes, Sturgeon's Law, and Bell curves that tend to throw my feelings around about things. =/

It's a true way to see it. I think the only person you left out was the troll that start listing off sexual things, motivational posters, stealing artwork, etc
I had someone make an interesting comparison:
"The definitions of art are as various as opinions"

DarkSnarkArtie89 In reply to ChikitaWolf [2011-08-19 22:08:46 +0000 UTC]
Well, I hate to say it, but everyone's a troll in some way or another. No really, we've all done some form of trolling to someone at some point in time, whether with the muckrake or with lazy satire. In fact, I tried to make it all look it was nothing but a bunch of trolls talking to Person 1...
But as far as the comparison to art/opinions, that sounds very true.
