Allen Walker (c) Hoshino Katsura
Background from Google

I don't even know where to begin x'D

I just keep seeing OC's that totally defy all logic in the fandom they're in. Like being sisters or brothers to a certain character or a lover of another character...

And being the wrong age to match either of those...

Or, even better, crazy hybrids of more than two animals o.O Or maybe even a fashion sense that's utterly and completely different from that fandom's setting (that one's pretty common actually).

I mean, yeah, it's your OC. Technically you can do pretty much anything you want with it. But can't we try to follow the logic of the fandom that OC is in? Cuz it's making all the other OC's look bad, lol.

There's a reason why there are people out there that dislike OCs-- really, there is. They're not being overly spiteful or anything.

Meh, that's my "rant" for the morning

((Yes, I'm tired. Hara-chan and I stayed up late watching Sherlock Holms xD))

And yes, that's Allen up there with an "Eh?" kinda face most likely towards the kitty wolf hybrid wearing Aeropostle clothing in the end of the 19th century that's been paired with him even though that OC is only 12 or somethin'...

Oh, and did I mention they had a kid? Ya know, even though Allen's only, like, 15 (or 16) and is totally not the type to do that

I would personally call those types of characters "fan-characters". OCs, in my opinion, need to have their own universe and such to be considered completely and totally original.ย

Not bashing on Fan-characters; I just think they belong in separate categories.

This was made quite a while ago, but currently I'm of the same mindset.ย

What I can't get is why the owners of these OCs don't create an own universe for their fan characters. One of my humanoid OCs started as and OC for the Blood+ anime fandom but after writing a fanfic I decided to take him out and he is standing fairly well on his own. Fandoms are not everything...

I did the same thing with my Ao no Exorcist fan characters - realized I wanted to do more than what was permitted in the universe, so I took them out and made them original characters :'>

I think some people are just afraid of taking their characters out of a fandom because it tends to result in less views or interest in their characters. Fan characters unfortunately have a tendency to receive more feedback and interest than original characters D;;

My OCs don't belong to Fandom...They have they're own universe...

Which would mean they aren't the type of OCs I'm referring to in the stamp.

I don't mind creating OCs who are related to canon characters. Pokemon has hundreds of characters with no known relatives. That doesn't mean that they have no families. (I gave Morty an extended family, since everyone else seems to make him an orphan.)

What's so interesting about a character that does whatever he wants?
The fun part about character creation is working with and around limitations, not barging through them and having the perfect character. Otherwise you get Twilight D:

Ghalaghor In reply to ChikitaWolf [2013-07-03 17:50:24 +0000 UTC]

that is the point, my ocยดs are a part of me and do what they/i want.

ChikitaWolf In reply to Ghalaghor [2013-07-03 17:56:41 +0000 UTC]

So your characters are sparkly vampires and/or loved by everyone angsty teenagers whose only purpose is to fullfill sexual fantasies? M'kay. As you say, whatever ya want, mate.

๐Ÿ‘: 0 โฉ: 1

Ghalaghor In reply to ChikitaWolf [2013-07-03 19:05:03 +0000 UTC]

nope, my characters are mostly shape-shifters and/or wizards. one of them is an immortal being made out of pure/raw energy from a parallel universe who can shape-shift and use magic. he travels around time and space.

...but yes, i have a monster-slime-character who can transform into any kind of monster, but not into one of these sparkling fairy-vampires (actually, he can, but he refuses to do that).

๐Ÿ‘: 0 โฉ: 1

ChikitaWolf In reply to Ghalaghor [2013-07-03 19:11:40 +0000 UTC]

Like the Doctor, except shapeshifting and magical? o:
amfg, that one sounds fun xD

This stamp is mostly towards fan characters - characters created for certain universes (created by someone else).

๐Ÿ‘: 0 โฉ: 1

Ghalaghor In reply to ChikitaWolf [2013-07-03 23:50:38 +0000 UTC]

yes, like the doctor, but i do not need a tardis to travel. being made out of energy is very helpful when you travel around the galaxies/universes.

i like to play rpgยดs so much that i create my own (sadly, i have no programming skills, otherwhise i would create some flash games...).

maybe a silly question, but do you know the site "my little brony"? i am roleplaying there in the few rp-threads they have. you can find me under my user-name Qwertzuy on that site.

Perhaps you could learn? I started drawing out of the wish to better picture my own original characters lD

Ahh, I'm not a MLP fan :'D My best friend is, but I know next to nothing about it, haha.

Ghalaghor In reply to ChikitaWolf [2013-07-05 20:43:59 +0000 UTC]

yeah, i tried to learn to animate a flash video/game. my brother has a cd that teaches you how to animate and we could not even watch five minutes of it. all in all, it was longer than a whole hour.

i just do not have the compassion to animate. i prefer to write stories, that is easier.

not an mlp fan, huh? well, you can still visit the other sections of cheezburger.com, my little brony is only one of many.

yeah i'm ok with ocs if their well written.
as for OCXCannon i'm okay with it as long as once again its well written and not just mindless sex and the character remains in character during the romance and it isn't love at first sight people should when writing with a character that isn't theirs have the main couple take their time heck maybe even NOT like each other entirely at first one might be distrusting or whatnot at first and warms up to them eventually.I see that so frequently it pisses me off.I'm making a series that makes fun of various cliche's i see in fan-fiction.(like oc and cannon meeting as kids and remembering each other perfectly as like 15 year olds.)

URG i heare you. I dont mind ocxcanon but i've seen so many bad fma ocs. Heck I can name one who is a Gaurdian Angel that answers directly to God, and her necklace is suppose to be her wings. How is that suppose to be possible and on top of that she broke the biggest rule of fma. She bipassed the law of equivalent exchange and did successful human transmutation. Not to mention this same person made Edward Elric go after her already married oc. Basically it didn't even fit in to the fma universe. I hate it so much when people decide to not even put the slightest amount of effort into their ocs.

I used to seriously hate ocs. I don't anymore, but I used to. Now the world knows why, I have been writing a story with a couple though. Neither one is shipped with anyone, they just act as two people for me to throw drama onto without killing the plot of DGM.

ChikitaWolf In reply to macmari [2012-05-20 17:47:12 +0000 UTC]

I know that feeling |D
I've always been an OC creator, but at some point, I was realllly starting to hate OCs. Luckily I met some friends with really neat OCs, and I liked them again (the good ones, anyway).

Okay: I do pair some of my oc's with canon character's, but I alway's try to keep the canon character in canon. What's the harm in that, unless you have a billion other character's falling for your oc then yeah that would make him or her a mary/gary sue or stu.

๐Ÿ‘: 0 โฉ: 1

ChikitaWolf In reply to frijole007 [2011-08-16 19:43:57 +0000 UTC]

It's a mix to be honest

On one side, it truly is your OC, and you have every right to make it however you want.

On the other, if it goes against the logic of the fandom in which you're inserted that OC, you should expect people to be annoyed and/or diss that OC.

So, it's kind of a mix

lol I saw one DGM fanfic a couple weeks ago where the main character was Allen's identical twin, Kanda's girlfriend, and Lavi's secret lover or something... lmao. She got ditched in this city that was trashed by akuma and was all panicky about how Kanda left her behind even though he swore he wouldn't or something, then set about REBUILDING the entire city for the winter instead of looking for a different town. After winter was over she was paranoid about crowds and things cuz she spent so much time alone... she ended up thinking about Kanda a lot and was all miserable about how he left her for dead and stuff... then the Order had a funeral for her like the day she decided to leave the town she rebuilt BY HERSELF WITH HER INNOCENCE... which was the same as Allen's, only on her left hand. So then she went about in this town pretending to be someone else... when she went into this bar she met a drunk finder who told her about how the Order was doing, and it turns out there's this new guy who looks a lot like this one exorcist who was killed who's actually her etc etc etc... so she goes out pretending to be Allen. XDD I laughed so hard reading this story, but every single review was flame so I felt bad about it afterwards. :/ But it was too hilarious...
