< rant >
Because it's just plain rude and obnoxious.
It goes both ways, of course. There's extremists and hate on both sides -- the religious and not religious. But really, it's extremely tiresome to find a nice piece of art with the topic of religion or no only to find someone attacking other commenters about their beliefs.
For instance: A person comments on a piece of art with religion as it's topic. They mention their beliefs, the creator responds, and they're having a convo about the religion or lack of. Then a new commentor leeches off and starts attacking one of them for what they believe in or not believe in, accusing them of things and just being outright obnoxious.
tl;dr: It's one thing to voice your opinion; it's another to be a complete ass about it.
< / rant >
Inspired by comments on my last stamp and what I've seen in the comments from recent religion / anti religion art works :V
C'mon people. Religious folk and non religious folk can get along. It's not that hard :'D If I, a sixteen year old Christian, can do it with my various wonderful friends of many beliefs or lack thereof, I'm sure the rest of ya'll can
EDIT: I realize that the stamp itself is rather broad, which is why I tried to be more specific in the artist's comments. There still seems to be some misunderstanding though, so I'll try to clear it up here.
I'm not saying that I discourage confronting people. I'm merely saying that I don't support outright attacking people. You're not going to win someone over by bursting in guns blazing and spitting out nasty things at them. All you're gonna do is make them think you're an ass. However, confronting a person in a civil manner is more likely to get them to listen to you.
EDIT2: I was wondering why I was getting constant faving, only to find that this stamp has gotten onto the second page of 24 hours
EDIT4: Featured~!

Aye, it's quite rude and bad advertising for your own religion. Who wants to sit next to the guy yapping at every passerby like a small house dog? But "crazy" and "hate" have no specific religion, so I reckon the best thing to do is drop-kick the mutt and try to find collie or something, eh?

Of course, you shouldn't attack people for their beliefs, but I think it's perfectly reasonable to challenge the beliefs themselves, especially when there's good reason to suspect that those beliefs are untrue.

It's believers' fault if there's hate. The reason why people hate and fear who doesn't share their beliefs is internal to their belief.
Who believes something also believes (because it's included in the belief) that the reason one believes that is external to that belief. Because he/ she must think that logic doesn't contrast with that belief. But logic goes exactly against it. Thinking seriously, the assumption that having that belief is simply "good" (no more complex reasons?) is internal to that belief.
So the only reason one has a belief is that one's been brainwashed with that kind of rethoric and culture. If you don't have a belief, you don't see a reason external to it for which to have it. That causes at minimum misunderstansing, mocking and contrast with who doesn't share that belief. Or directly avoiding to discuss it and almost to talk at all.
And in every belief, exactly because of the reason that is internal to the belief and fakes to be external, there's the hate and fear of the idea of not having it. So at least partially, even if one is no fanatic, one hates and fear who doesn't share one's belief.
So if you have a belief, (imitates the voice of a publicity spot) don't forget to hate and fear who doesn't share it! Otherwise you don't really have a belief!

Everyone agrees with this when "people" is talking about them. Attacking people for their beliefs is... well, all I can say is that every world leader who has seen fit to exterminate the Jewish people has been dethroned violently.

Always hate it when people do that, but only when the person doesn't read through everything first. It wastes my time and makes them look like an ignorant idiot on purpose. Lurking trolls are annoying, aren't they?
Anyway, thanks for making this stamp. Though I find it bizarre (and a tad humorous) that in a lot of attacks the attacker themselves are claiming to be attacked.

The worst are the warped walls who are so stuck on one idea of you, even if you replied completely agreeing with them on something, they just bark out at you like you attacked them or something. I wish people would recognize themselves and others through independent means, instead of lurking and trolling.

I agree with the general intent of this. However, I think it is wrong to equate the behaviour of religious people and atheists - when a religious person attacks somebody (or is "extremist"), it is usually through violent repression. I haven't yet come across an atheist who wants to murder people who don't share the same opinions.
While a suicide-bomber is an extremist, an outspoken humanist is *not*.

What about communist China? Or am I making a faulty comparison? At least from what I've studied of them, they kill religious folk that they believe threaten their political standing. Please correct me if I'm wrong of course

vik1067 In reply to ChikitaWolf [2012-03-15 02:54:18 +0000 UTC]
The majority of Chinese are Buddhist. In any case, the Chinese government does not impose a specific religion (or the lack of one) on people. It does impose very strict limits on the freedoms on individuals, but this has nothing to do with religion - it's all political.
Communism and atheism are mutually exclusive. Yes, I know Stalin was technically an atheist, but he did not commit his crimes in the name of atheism - his evils were caused by a pseudo-religious outlook that was a political agendum; it had nothing to do with his unbelief.

But yeah, have you really met a wacko religious extremist that wanted to kill you? I've only ever heard of those incidents from my friend from Church who likes to go on mission trips. She's been through one incident with a Muslim group, and a second with a radical athiest that was having a bad day
Ah, mission trip stories...)

Like I said, I've had death threats on the internet. I do not live in a place teeming with fundamentalists of any kind, so I suppose I'm not in any immediate danger. I do have Christian 'friends' who have condemned me to hell for disbelief; I have Muslim 'friends' who have threatened me with violence for disrespect (which they like to call blasphemy) and I have Hindu acquaintances who have actually attempted violence because I don't agree with them.
Mission trips? That's very different - I don't go around forcing my opinions on other people. I think attempting to convert people is wrong. I don't have a problem with people believing what they want to, but they shouldn't be allowed to force it on anyone else, or go around lying about it. If a bunch of people showed up and attempted to convert me, I'd be extremely annoyed.
That, by the way, is my principal issue with religion. It is not content to stay within the confines of the church (or equivalent), it requires to be forced on other people outside, and requires (if it's to remain in existence) to campaign actively against reason, thought and science.
