I am so TIRED of this:
“She’s a cool OC, but her outfit is like my OC’s.”
“Her outfit is just like my OC’s!! D:”
“Her hair is like my OC’s, but she’s alright.”
“She looks like my OC
”
So. Flippin’. Tired of it.
Okay, so maybe I shouldn’t be THIS bothered by it, but I’ve been seeing it happen over and over again. It’s really becoming a pet peeve for me—especially since it’s been reoccurring. No, I’m not going to mention usernames, that’s fairly rude and opens them up for trolls. That would just be spiteful xP
It urks me the most, however, when someone makes a new OC and is hoping for some critique because it’s their first time… and they get one of the above quotes instead.
Way to give them a confidence booster
People. Seriously. Just because the outfit of another OC looks SOMEHOW in SOMEWAY similar to yours, does NOT mean they took it from you.
Stop. Being. Paranoid.
Literally, I have seen people comment on any other DGM OC going, “Oh, that top looks like my OC’s design”; or “Oh, those shorts are like my OC’s!”.
Shorts are shorts. There aren’t exactly a gazillion types of shorts to choose from. It’s only natural for them to look similar to other shorts. Same with tops. There's only so much you can do with customizing a DGM uniform and keep it within the ability to be fought in.
Heck, look at my OC, Kira. She wears shorts. I can name three other DGM OC’s that wear shorts and were created after her.
Do you see me going to their OC art and saying that crap?
NO. Because, believe it or not, that person had a similar idea without knowing of Kira beforehand. They didn’t need to look at Kira and go “Oh, I like her shorts—I’ll copy them~~!!1!”. Heck, even if they did, I wouldn’t be too bothered with it.
They are shorts. No big deal.
Now if the entire outfit looks EXACTLY and I mean EXACTLY the same, then maybe there's a problem-- but that's not what's the problem here xP
So, all in all, yes, this is a rant.
I’m not saying this to everyone, ‘kay? An innocent “What d’ya know, she kinda looks like my OC xD Nice job though, and I really love the pose you made and the expression you used!”
That’s not shoving copyright or “you stolez from meee!1!!” in their face. That’s just joking around and giving a critique (GOD FORBID!) to that person's DGM OC.
And I can understand that.
Just please, please don’t start that “She looks like my OC! Her outfit is just like mine!” stuff… please? It really makes me want to comment and go lawyer mode, and I don’t like doing that, ‘cause I don’t like to sound rude :/ Even though I guess this could sound rude as well >.>”Okay, well, I’ll end the rant here~
Enough ranting, Wolfy! Get back to work on those linearts you have to color! xP

Well, no one's ever said this to me, but I could see how it could get annoying. I mean, IT'S A FREAKING UNIFORM THAT THEY'RE WEARING. You can customize it a bit so it's not so boring, but the whole point of a uniform is so that a certain group of people can wear it and can be recognized as a member of whatever organization that the person is from! It's not like you can make a whole lot of changes without changing the whole uniform look.
Even though I say this, I've seen ridiculous "uniform alternations" for the DGM 3rd uniform on dA. Even to the point where the "uniform" Is basically a sports bra and short shorts with the uniform colors. :/ I don't really get that. How can you call that a uniform anymore?

Ah, yes, I've seen those as well *sweatdrop*. Lots of skin = lots of places to get cut up in a fight. The only reason my character Kira is partially sleevless and has shorts is 'cause her skin is her Innocence and protects her from minor cuts and such, plus it helps her move around more easily. When making a uniform, you have to make sure the character can FIGHT in it!
Oh, and then you have the ones with all the ribbon and whatnot and all I can imagine is an Akuma swingin' them around 
It's just not a uniform Dx It makes the character look like a prostitute (no offense to the designer, but it's true >.>).
But then we get into Mary Sues, and that's a whole other area to rant about, lol~

I agree! There are some Innocence where you need to show some skin, because of how the innocence functions. Like Lenalee, for example. Her dark boots go up to her mid-thigh, so she can either wear short shorts or a skirt. (And she wears shorts under her skirt, anyway.) And her dark boots provide her legs with protection, which is why the lower part of her uniform is so short.
You OC too, seems to have a good reason to have short/no sleeves and shorts. I mean, if she wore long sleeves and pants, then they would rip every time she activated her innocence, which would be nothing but fan service.
Yeaaahhh I don't get the ribbons. The only ribbons that I can see are Allen's crown belt. But those are bad ass ribbons, so it's ok.
Ugh. Mary Sues. I could rant on them for HOURS. But I won't. Because no one would be able to read the whole thing.

Exactly! People are always complaining about Lenalee's skirt, but at the same time, if it were any longer, it'd get in the way of her Dark Boots (although I must say her undershorts seem to be getting shorter and shorter x'D).

Well, on the bright side, the DGM fandom doesn't have as many of them as other fandoms ^^" (Like Naruto or any of the other Big Three >.>" Now THOSE are scary D: )

I knoww~ I loooove Lenalee to death, and though people can have their own opinions about characters, I seriously don't understand what their deal is with Lenalee's uniform. T.T It's not like she floundering around and clinging onto one of the male characters all the time like some people's OC's seem to do.
Eeehhh, DGM has it's fair share of Mary Sues, though I guess they aren't as outlandish as the Naruto/Blach/One Piece ones. Cuz, well, the characters in DGM aren't as eye-catching and over the top in appearance compared to the other mangas. They look a bit more normal, though they're all still really awesome and interesting. I prefer them over the other fandoms any day.

EXACTLY~~ I love Lenalee, I find that she's a pretty realistic character. Well, I mean, she is freakishly nice, but there are some people like that our there... 
Lenalee kicks ass, but has her limits, like a real person. She's also just more emotional than the other characters, and cares for her comrades a lot. So if they're in danger or get seriously hurt/dies, she's gonna cry. Any normal person would.
Ha, lol. Too many halves there. 
But yeah, I know what you mean. Also, there was this one naruto-dgm crossover fic, and the main character was Sakura. I actually like Sakura, but the way the author portrayed her in the fic was so outrageous. It was supposed to be a bit in the future where Sakura grew up a bit, but she was a totally different person, super strong to the point that she could beat General Sokalo, and a total bitch and mary sue. The only thing that was similar to the real Sakura was that she had pink hair. I mean, wtf.

Crossovers are always interesting.. one side is usually favored over the other, so one of the animes ends up having stronger characters than all the rest. I think I've only read one or two crossovers that equeled things out to a realistic extent, and that was JadeOokami's DGM x Harry Potter fic

it's just not a polite thing to do, that coming from me the queen of rude.

Okay so I've never personally had this happen to me. has yet to post a pic of her OC >.>' But I see it happen ALL THE TIME! And heck, if people pay close enough attention to the anime/manga of D.Gray-man, all of their uniforms look alike too. Especially their third uniforms.
Like they all pretty much have the exact same design, but in a different style. And as you mentioned above, there is only so much a person can do with shorts ._.

With the DGM outfit- I totally agree. there are only so many things you can do. The color scheme is black and whit for crying out loud (and red if we're talking third, but that's besides the point.)They have to be good for fighting, so there can only be some any designs of skirts/pants.
one of my quasi-OC's (Klaud's team that didn't get any background) wears shorts too! *shock*
There are also only so many weapons a character can have, too. <-- *also heard complained about way too much*

Exactly! I mean, it's D.GRAY-MAN. It has to be an outfit you can FIGHT in. And it only comes in BLACK, WHITE, and RED (and I guess silver, but still). You only have so many styles and colors to choose from!
Ohhh, weapons are fun xD They can vary, but there are commonly used weapons as well.. 'cause.. you know, people don't know how to rp their OC or write about their OC through another weapon. It's kinda like a person who chooses a sword as their OC's Innocence. It's most probably because it's an easy weapon to work with and they can rp or write their character effectively with it.
Or wings-- wings are popular as well

I like looking up different weapons for D.Gray-Man (knives, staff, bow and arrow, etc...) just to see what I can do with them.
Swords are ok because there are differnt kinds if you're willing to research. I've noticed wings a lot. I had a scrapped story involving wings. The new plot developments threw it off too much.

Wings have become fairly popular-- I think they've slowed down some, though, since HatoriKumiko and UnbreakableSoul have popularized theirs~

But really, people don't seem to get it that it's very possible to come up with similar/same ideas without really stealing them from others. Especially in fanfiction.
I think Sora will just steal her uniform style from Allen. She would quit the whole exorcist business if they try to make her wear too girlish clothes and Allen-like style fits her best.

Poor Sora, she hates uniforms and when she's asked what kind of uniform she wants she first says she doesn't want one at all. And when that's not possible she says with a sigh "Okay, something like Allen's then." And later when she's asked "Are you really an exorcist?" she replies "No, I just borrowed this from Allen."
