I managed to finally get to see one of rix9654 's join.me's and watching them color and weave details into their artwork was a huge inspiration. I decided that I wanted to try harder on my next colored piece, so naturally the Dmitri lineart ended up being my test subject :'D

This is one of those works where I tried to go all out, experimenting with different layering styles, coloring, textures, and details. It's sort of a conglomeration of cell shading, marker, and a shit ton of highlighting on luminosity xD I'm rather pleased with how it came out, though I know I still have a lot to improve on lmao. Didn't get quite everything I wanted in there, and there are a few mistakes but oh well - I'm too exhausted to attempt anymore with it xD

This is, as most of you know, my original character Dmitri. He's my leading protagonist in my original story TSFE. There aren't really black and white heroes or villains in my story, but if I were to coin Dmitri down, he would be more of the "antihero," per se. His actual physical appearance is a large part of the story plotpusher, as it is what most people judge him by and why he's immediately often labeled a villain; so I made sure to pull that in for this artwork (not that that's too hard LOL). Draconics are easily made out to be the "bad guys" due to their ~somewhat~ demonic appearances (half human, believed to be half dragon; though this is debatable and not a common belief in the current setting of the story); plus, these draconics were created only for war, so a lot of their social skills are, uh, lacking, conventionally anyway. The biggest goal in their creation was "intimidation," so naturally they tend to be the "outsiders" of society after the war they were made for ended. But now I'm rambling - back to the artwork xD

The black poles behind Dmitri are actually grave-markers. Back in Dmitri's time and during the war, it was considered bad luck not to give a dead man a grave-marker; the spirit was said to be unappeased and would torment anyone that came by, driving passersby into insanity. While draconics were considered monsters even by their comrades, they were still created off of humans, so they were also given a grave-marker due to this superstition. However, unlike the white grave-markers given to humans, draconics were given black grave-markers to keep them separated even in death from their "fully human" counterparts. The black grave-marker was also symbolic, as the first few generations of draconics in death would pollute the area in which they were buried; the Virus from within their bodies would seep out and corrupt the grave-marker, turning it black. The more of the Virus within the body, the wider the area that was corrupted.

The flames, of course, represent the battles Dmitri's fought. Which is a shit ton. And still adding up //mings. The purple glow is from the energy his Virus causes to build up in his body and which he expels by creating his sword, Conqueror, or blowing shit up. Ironically enough, purple is symbolic of balance, or the little bit of both (involving red, the most violent color, and blue the most calming color).
