Description
Grimmjow's Zanpakutou PanteraI used the tutorials made by to make this. Check out his page if you need to learn how to make a katana out of wood.
The sword was made out of poplar using a jigsaw, files and a power sander. Instead of screwing the handle pieces in like posted in 's guide I decided to just glue them instead. On one side of the blade a little part of the paint job got kinda screwed up when I glossed it(guess it wasn't dry enough). The handle wraping was simple enough. I used hot glue to secure the ribbon on each end of the handle.
The sheath was made out of cardboard and paper-mache. I originally intended to make it out of wood but decided not to due to time constraints. I do plan on making a wooden one after Anime North if I don't get too lazy.

I have kind of an advice, for the sheath or saya, try using PVC tube (just make it warm make the curve of a katana and then cool it with water)
Sorry for any mistakes in my english

It has grain like pretty much all woods. I even used it for the tsuba.

Hmm well okey mixed opinions but
Congratulations your are a swordmaker O.O You have done a great job at the handle wrapping much better then I have. The painting looks great and you did a good clean job on the hilt.
However you used a jigaw to cut out the blade, a coping saw does a much cleaner job lol. I dont actually know what poplar is lol it might explain why the outside rim of the tsuba is so thick.
besides that excellent sword and hope to see more XD did you use my zanpaktuo tsuba drawings?

I used balsa for the outside rim of the tsuba. I almost used up an entire sheet of the stuff because it kept breaking when cutting the tsuba details. Poplar is a type of softwood with a bit if a green-ish tint to it. The stuff is easy to work with and takes paint well.
I did use your tsuba drawings, they're really useful.

Yeah balsa wood does that, you gotta have a carefully hand like a surgeon ^^
and poplar is like a softwood eh? I gotta get me some of that lol, does it have grain or none like MDF?
All in all a pat on the back XD
