This drawing was quite a challenge. Partly because of the format - it's the biggest I've ever drawn before - and partly because I gave myself a deadline of only a week as I didn't want to go back to spending months on a piece, I ltend to lose interest in it after a while when I do that - but mainly because I haven't actually drawn or painted at all in over a year. This is also the first big cat I've tried my hands on, AND my third pastel ever - my first with chalk pastels! All in all, I'm very happy about the outcome.
It's no masterpiece but it's probably the best drawing I've ever done. I'll most likely update this deviation once I get a better photo of it.(HEY! Can you find my signature? It's 'hidden' somewhere in the painting)

I use velour paper, it's helps when you want to achieve that 'soft fur' look. Overall, it's a very nice paper.

This is absolutely beautiful, and the -eyes- are so deep and clear. Lovely image. If I had the money, I would gladly buy it. I adore big cats and birds of prey just as much as wolves.

I'm so glad you like it. Snow leopards are my favorite of the big cats, that's why I chose to draw one. Next drawing will be of a wolf, but shh, that's a secret for now.

and yes, Snow Leopards are one of the most beautiful and regal of the big cats, one of my favs, really. Them, Tigers, cheetahs, Jaguars and leopards in general. ^^ I like the spotties.

Its beautiful. How do you keep the piece from getting messy? Whenever I use pastels of any kind its just a big smudgy mess.

I am right handed, so I work from left to right. I don't have much experience with his medium but I bet that's the safest way to avoid smudging. I do believe I've seen a tool that you lean against the picture to support your hand, but I'm not sure what it's called. Perhaps it was handmade by the artist who used it (I just remember seeing a picture online somewhere) because I don't think I've ever seen it anywhere else.
