I just loved this side character in the new Steven Bomb. I know she was barely part of the bomb but I still really like her. I also heard apparently she was getting some hate? So I wanted to give her some love <3

And I wonder if they 'hate' has anything to do with the fact that Skinny Jasper was from the Beta kindergarten and, technically, came out wrong. Cuz Peridot herself said that all of the holes in the Beta were very poor, except for regular Jasper, who came out perfect.

Honestly some people can't just like Skinny Jasper without insulting buff Jasper to do so. I haven't seen anyone hate on her besides calling her a twig or people not wanting to replace buff Jasper for her but there's been lots of love for her.

ppl don't hate her as a character, ppl don't hate her for *being* skinny.
what ppl hate is the notion that she's better and/or more attractive than regular jasp bc she's skinny (basically ppl ignoring the fact that jasper's personality/emotional issues are 100% a result of her past experiences/upbringing, as if she's inherently Evil™ and just likes being mean and wants to kill everyone for no reason); and by extension the disproportionate amount of focus n praise spent on gems who are small, skinny/ more conventionally feminine.

Beauty is subjective. Some people find buff people attractive, some people find thin people attractive, and some people find curvy people attractive.
It's all personally preference in regards to outer beauty.
The three main characters consists of two chubby short gems, one tall curvy/"thick" gem, and one average stick thin gem. None of these body types are the perceived perfect body type that is known as skinny and curvy.
So I think it is inaccurate to say there is a disproportionate amount of praise going to small, skinny, and more conventionally feminine gems. Peridot is short and average I would say in weight whilst not very feminine and Lapis is skinny and curvy whilst more feminine. They are still B characters though and I don't think it's wrong for Lapis to be conventionally feminine.
I think all sorts of body types are shown off in the show and none are more praised than any other. Skinny Jasper is not even conventionally feminine. She doesn't have lashes like buff jasper and she has short hair and a flat chest.
I think hating on any of the characters based on their appearance is silly.

dude i wasn't talking abt how i personally feel or the body representation/designs in relation to canon;
(i like all the gems! i enjoy the variety in their body types! but biases and preferences don't just pop out of a vacuum in the middle of nowhere, they're influenced & cultivated within society and media as a whole. and for a while it's been preferential towards women who are skinny / conventionally feminine etc.
removed from the context of beauty standards there's nothing inherently wrong w those, i *know* it doesn't wholly apply to every gem, but some combo of those traits are present in some haracters and, whether or not u personally think so, are still consciously n unconsciously factored into how they're perceived)
like.. regular jasp, bismuth + rubies are the only gems to constantly get wrongly labeled as male, called ugly, assumed to be irrationally violent and angry. you know that would never happen to characters that look like lapis, pearl, rose etc.)
i was objectively talking about this wrt to fandom, explaining the reasoning from what i've personally observed and read from other fans/viewers and thus why its inaccurate to say that ppl "hate her for being skinny" bc that literally Isn't The Case it's more nuanced than that. im 100% not trying to fight u or anything, it's a nice drawing, i was just trying to elaborate 👌🏽

I'm not trying to fight either. I was also stating how I feel about the subject. I apologize if I appeared to come off as aggressive in some manner.
While it is true that the environment around us (This includes the media and things of that nature) can influence us in various ways those influences are not the only reason we have certain preferences.
A lot of our preferences are biological. Long before we had media, when we were much more primitive, like most other animals we looked for mates that appeared healthy and capable of providing the best offspring. Curvy women who were not too overweight or too thin with wide hips and large breasts would be considered pretty ideal for reproductive reasons. So it makes sense that most people would have preferences to those types of bodies even today.
I firmly believe our preferences are linked more towards biological reasons and the need to survive and prosper more than anything else.
Buff Jasper, Bismuth, and the Rubies have masculine traits. None of the gems have a sex or gender even if they use female pronouns but they still have masculine and feminine traits. It's okay for Buff Jasper, Bismuth, and the Rubies to be masculine. I don't see that as a bad thing. (I'm not saying you do. I'm speaking generally.) Personally I think some aspects of Bismuth's design are kind of ugly but that is just my opinion. I still like her as a character.
All of the Rubies have a short temper it seems like, so I would say it's part of their gem type. Red artistically can represent love or anger and even death. Meanwhile blue is a cool softer and more "feminine" color hence Sapphires calm and icy demeanor.
There are a lot of people who hated Pearl for the longest time and probably still do for a lot of her emotional characters traits. Most people understand her behavior now as PTSD but for those who don't see that, just like how you say people don't see the reasoning behind Jasper's personality, they see Pearl as annoying, mean, and untrustworthy. Some people hate Lapis because she is "too overrated" but I think people love her so much because a lot of young people felt they could relate due how alone and trapped they currently feel or have felt in the past. But she too, on the surface, clearly acts irrationally at times. Some people think Rose is an idiot based on what we have gotten of her in flash backs.
I've seen negative and positive said about all of the characters regardless of how masculine or feminine they are.
I just don't like it when people hate on characters for vapid reasons like their appearance. (Again, I am not saying you do this, I'm just speaking generally.)
