Hello! I wanted to let you know that I cited your tutorial in the article Introduction to Polymer Clay written for Project Educate because I believe it's one of the best resources available in DA. Thank you so much for your generosity in making tutorials and inspiring others

You said you added about a spoonful of water to the glaze, do you mean the whole bottle of glaze or some other amount of glaze?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

ChocoAng3l In reply to origamibttrfly [2012-02-06 18:02:02 +0000 UTC]

the whole glaze .. not another amount.
If your glaze is solid though .. you can't fix it by a spoon full of water
Oh .. and it doesn't need to be a full spoon or 1 spoon alone
it depends on how thick it is. I like my glaze watery .. or semi watery
it is better and i can apply different layers this way.

Gah.
So I use any random color of clay I have laying around, which I then paint with acrylics after they're cooled, and I paint 1-2 layers of paint. I use sculpey glaze on them, but after about a week the glaze starts to crack. D: (it's only the glaze that cracks, not the paint) And I HAVE to glaze them, because otherwise the paint will smear.
Do you know how to keep them from cracking/if there's a better type of glaze that works better with the paint?

ChocoAng3l In reply to OnigirixPlushie [2012-02-02 19:55:24 +0000 UTC]

Umm .. the glaze never crack or at least, I never had any episode where the glaze crack so you will need to reglaze them .. that is actually wierd o_O
Can you take a photo of that? what colors are you using ? may be the colors / clay / glaze are not compatible types together ? so that cause the glaze to crack? I am not sure what cause your problem

Lately I've been using white Fimo clay & painting it with acrylics; and it cracks no matter what color paint I use. xD And it's not like, huuugee cracks or anything, it just when you look closely at the charm you see little cracks running through it.
I'll try re-glazing them to see if that helps, and if it doesn't I think I'm just gonna switch brands of glaze. xD

ChocoAng3l In reply to Fushica [2011-05-25 22:04:41 +0000 UTC]

I only use my hair dryer to dry everything BUT my hair .. lol !

moofestgirl [2011-04-13 19:01:53 +0000 UTC]

I usually use 2 types of gloss, the Sculpey glaze you're using and one called Triple Thick. I find that the Sculpey Glaze does dry a lot more lumpy without water, but the Triple Thick doesn't. By the time the Triple Thick is 100% dry all of the lumps have smoothed and it looks really pretty, and I only have to do one coat ^^

I guess it just depends on the type of gloss you use? o.o

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

ChocoAng3l In reply to moofestgirl [2011-05-25 22:06:49 +0000 UTC]

Yea, it does depends on the type of gloss.
Some glosses are thicker than others. I no longer use this sculpey gloss too, and the gloss I have in hand is actually very watery so no need to add anything. Though, you should put in mind that gloss become thicker by time, so if you happened to come across this fact, just add few drops of water since heat and long storage tend to evaporate water in it.
Happy crafting ^^

Distorted-Nightmare [2010-10-09 00:35:51 +0000 UTC]

Would using a hairdryer till make them shiny?
Like if you hair dray your nails after nail polish it comes out dull..
Is it like that for polymer clay?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

ChocoAng3l In reply to Distorted-Nightmare [2010-11-26 08:08:08 +0000 UTC]

Well... for polymer clay
if you hair dry them, they become shine-er xD
and for me .. it reduce much of time waiting them to dry
especially if i have limited time working and i need to finish an order

darkflair [2010-03-05 00:43:17 +0000 UTC]

Could you explain to me how the stick to hold up the clay object works? > m< Wouldn't it leave in the clay after glazing?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

ChocoAng3l In reply to darkflair [2010-03-05 07:49:38 +0000 UTC]

Nope! if you left it for a long enough for it to dry completely let's say 2 hrs then you can simply remove it by doing a circle motion to detach the piece off the stick .. I am using a stainless steel or some metail here so it is actually good and if I do that .. even if I didn't glaze perfectly the glaze on both ends will go with the piece and I can trim it by a clipper

How much does glaze cost, usually?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

ChocoAng3l In reply to CloudBunniie [2009-05-06 10:03:26 +0000 UTC]

I've seen glazes prices between $3-5a
and they might be a small bottle but I can
say that this small bottle can glaze over 200 charms
I've tried it myself n_____n

That's helpful, thanks !
i nvr tried the blow dried cuz it gives strong air and i'm afraid the glaze will fly away or something like that lol but i'm gonna try it ^^

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

ChocoAng3l In reply to TokiCrafts [2008-11-06 09:39:15 +0000 UTC]

well they won't fly away if you apply a thin layer
if they fly somewhere else that's because you apply so much
or just have a thick glaze :3 . You can blow the air like 20 cm away from the charm
that will still dry it and keep the glaze at it's place

neko-crafts [2008-11-04 18:44:57 +0000 UTC]

lol. people have so many different ways to do things.
at the moment im using clear top coat nailvarnish as its like exactly the same and i ran out of fimo brand laquer D: the fimo one is expensive and in a tiny bottle with a brush D: i usually (if it has a charms hanger thingy) put a toothpick thru the headpin part so its secure and glaze with a brush
just so you dont get fingerprints. then i wait 5 mins for it to dry hair dryer is so cheating

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

ChocoAng3l In reply to neko-crafts [2008-11-05 08:03:52 +0000 UTC]

yea xD .. does nailvarnish works with you ?
I've read alot of it is not water based ._. so I hope yours is
I agree the fimo ones is really expensive but the sculpey isn't xD which I love
lol I don't mid cheating because I am not a patient after all .. I can't wait them to dry
that will kill me !
