Another quick job; drew and painted it in four'ish hours. I know, it's messy in places, but it's 3:41 am; I'm in no state of consciousness to do anything about it...
*REVISED*
-Slightly intensified the shadows on the figure.
-Added a new layer of highlights
-Gave the walls a ribbed surface
-Gave the humans a vague silhouette
-Added a layer of fog, cuz I liked the effect I'd gotten by accident and wanted more.
-Cleaned up a lot of rough edges in the environment.

You're exactly right. I was trying to get that slime effect in this picture, but apparently it's harder to pull off than I'd expected =\ I ended up giving up and just giving him the surface you see here.

Whoa...I really like the strong contrasts. The lighting rocks my socks. And excellent angle too by the by. I usually hate Aliens, but this one's pretty nifty.

the alien looks so much better with intensified lighting, but I hope you don't mind me commenting on the hive, personally I would work on intensifying the shadows and highlights on that to get a very similar texture to that of the alien skin, as you know it is just as shiny and slimy as the alien itself.
Also maybe you could do with a bit more fog/mist (not a silly amount obviously), with the hive's heat being so warm... But don't worry it's a great pic whether you have another attempt or not

True, but then you have to worry about the form of the alien disappearing into the background. (and while it would realistically do that, for the sake of the picture I need him to stand out)
I think I'm content to call it finished at this point, especially since I start classes in a couple of hours

Chris, this is an AWESOME piece! The lighting, the angle, the coloring...wow. Drew and painted in 4 hours?! Well it looks fantastic! I don't really feel one way or the other towards Aliens...but this just plan ROCKS. I love the detail and the whole piece REEKS of suspense. Bum, bum, BUM! Really like this one. Great job. ^.~

Looking back at it, I'm thinkin' I should go back and tighten it up a little, but yeah, for four hours it's not half bad... That's two pics, side-by-side, which I did really fast yet garnered huge responses... I gotta figure out how I'm doin' this... O.o
