Description Heres some more BG work that is actually a panel from the SpiderMan plot that im working on right now. This is the version that i lay on TRACING PAPER and then draw from onto my original board. This plot is taking a little longer to knock out because of a few things, but the main reason is that i am attempting some new things in my work, and obviously that changes the scope of alot things when applied.

Well, wnjoy the tease and i will post the full version when i get done, AIGHT!
PEACE!

the perspective is dead on. is anything going to be in the empty space on the left? the way the buildings are drawn leads the eye there.

Yeah man, it takes a good amount of practice, and an even LARGER amount of WILLINGNESS! But you can do it, GO FOR IT! And thanks for the compliment.

Yeah man, i definitely utilized varrying lineweights on the final, and am adding little DEPTH emphasizers to the sky and stuff, its a night scene, so not too much will go back there, and i dont work with light definition so theres not much that i have to add really. Thanks man for the props.

133art [2006-12-29 20:53:56 +0000 UTC]

simple and perfect. my only cretique would be heavier line weight in the closer buildings as well. depending where you place spidey mabye something like clouds in the BG? like 2508 said i'm streching cause its not even fin yet. anyway CHEERS and keep up da good werk!

elbooga [2006-12-29 16:43:33 +0000 UTC]

its a very clear and precise background, something i could definitly see in a spidey comic.
i actually like the way the window on the right stand out more as a result of being surrounded by a blank wall in contrast to the rest of the bg.
the only problem i have is that there is so much detail in the surrounding buildings that it draws my attention away. but thats just a personal preference

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

chriscopeland In reply to elbooga [2006-12-29 18:51:12 +0000 UTC]

Thanks man, yeah that was my intent when doing that window/doorway. As far as where the attention goes, Peter Parker is actually standing in this panel on the actual page so you really see where it is that he's looking at on it. THanks for the critique man, glad you like it.

Teh-Big-P [2006-12-29 16:40:40 +0000 UTC]

Dope perspective man. Did you use photos or stand on a street corner and sketch that?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

chriscopeland In reply to Teh-Big-P [2006-12-29 23:50:24 +0000 UTC]

All from the brain man, i live in Chicago and have been here since i was born so i have alot of Building thoughts going through my head all the time, and NY look just like NY so its pretty easy for me to grab stuff out of my head, its become REALLLLLY easy for me to do these now, the HARDEST part all the time is setting up the grid correctly, after thats done, everything else is easy, just time consuming.

2508 [2006-12-29 13:05:51 +0000 UTC]

looks really good, i was trying to be as subjective as possible so that i could give you a good critique that would help you out. one question was do you pencil with the intent for it to be inked, if not, you might try putting heavier line weight in the closer buildings. but you said this wasn't the final so. i'm stretching a little here because i'm trying to find a flaw. don't take it as arrogance cause my buildings are no where near that clean....yet. it does look very sharp and i do like it.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

chriscopeland In reply to 2508 [2006-12-29 18:54:38 +0000 UTC]

Thanks Seth, as far as the lineweights go yeah in the pencilled version you can see that the DEPTH is conveyed through the lines, i didnt do much weight variations with the ink as i was only trying to lay out a stencil for myself, so thats how that works out. This stage of my work instead of working with a Blueline pencil like MOST of the art world, i work with a PaperMate pen, it frees my mind alot to know that i cant erase it so i shouldn't even try to , and helps me be more, DIRECT with my layout approach.

2508 In reply to chriscopeland [2006-12-31 00:14:04 +0000 UTC]

that's pretty cool. i like doing sketches with pens for the same reason, but i'm not bold enough to work on actual pages that way.

Tight work dude. BG's are very hard to draw for me, so much much respect!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

chriscopeland In reply to RobertLaszloKiss [2006-12-29 23:48:17 +0000 UTC]

Yeah man, they are always going to be like all things that we draw, the more you do it, the better you get at it, i mean REALLY once you learn how to use grids, BG's become WAYYYYY easier to do than anything else, because theres not alot of thought that has to go into em, you just have to know what you want the buildings look like and follow the grid. Im glad you like it.
