Description
had a bunch of free time and decided to work on environments! I wasn't really sure where to go with this, so I decided to try to loosely rework an old painting from roughly a year ago. Specifically: [link]Inspired by the balete tree, and Legend of Zelda: A link to the Past. (my friend and I are playing through it gradually and we had just gotten to the master sword forest place before I started this, hehe)

That's exactly what came to mind when I first saw this! Nothing beats the childhood nostalgia of playing that game.
Have you played it before?
I agree with Partial-Credit. Though I'm sure you colored it for the sake of contrast than anything else?
Nevertheless, Tempered Sword is best sword~

No, my first Zelda game was Ocarina of time, I have never played any of the 2D ones aside from Link's Awakening until now. It's been a pretty cool experience so far, part of me wishes I had gotten into games back in that era. I didnt come in until the N64 scene though.
Hehe, and yes the orange is there solely for the contrast. I was deciding between a big weird orange flower/plant or this sword idea to use as the focal point, in the end I liked the sword more.

A Link to the Past was my first Zelda experience, but the first game I beat (and second to play as thoroughly) was Wind Waker. So, those have become my favorite 2D and 3D Zeldas~ If you get stuck somewhere, do feel free to drop me a word; I know those two like I know my own house!
But, I let my inner geek have too much fun and I feel bad for barely commenting on the art itself! So, I love the color choice and, of course, the contrast of the orange sword against the cooler background. I think the butterflies are a wonderful touch; that is, they make me wonder if the sword turned them orange or if they have some sort of relation to it. Anything can happen with fantasy, after all~ If I have any criticism, it might belong to the lightest details on the trees. Zooming in fully, their scratchiness seems to stand out rather sharply compared to the rest of the picture, like the darker areas and the grass, which seem to have a smoother painted vibe. They seem almost separate from the whole to me, then. What do you think?

Good point. I was experimenting with creating textures a lot in this one, and I was pretty happy with how the bark on the tree turned out. But I think you are right, a lot more time should have been spent on the other foreground elements to make it all work with the level of detail in the trees. Knowing when to call something done is sort of a problem I have had for a loooong time, trying to work on it though!

Hah, yeah it does. We literally just got the tempered sword last time we played, I didn't even realize there was an orange sword in the game! Interesting coincidence I guess.

Indeed! Must have been a premonition.
