Description It is theorized that after nuclear war, a large amount of soot and smoke will be ejected into the Earth's stratosphere, creating an environment of reduced sunlight and cold weather for a period of years after the event.

As if there aren't already enough examples of atomic atrocities in history and in the the news *shakes fist as JR Oppenheimer*

A concept piece for the mysterious Uranium Club. Also, I submitted this to the IFX monthly challenge (the theme was 'Chilling') here: [link]

Edit: Thank you to =LadyFromEast and ^Voyager212 for suggesting and featuring my work! And thank you to everyone who commented and faved, it was a really nice surprise when I checked my messages this afternoon!

It's so cool how you incorporated the canted angle into this, to create that amost surreal feel to it. The colors are fitting for the mood, and the red glow is intriguing. The textures are soft but powerfully detailed, and the skeleton and dog addition is just plain awesome Is it a hound? Looks like it to me xD

My opinion may be influenced with me liking post-war-themes but what you've done there is not only simple but also striking and has a bit surprise in it. For me at least since I only realized the guy was holding a geiger counter when I looked for details.

Also reminds me of the S.T.A.L.K.E.R, maybe because of the dog...

Thanks! All these video games I've missed... In the past few years I've only been able to tackle Fallout, Assassins Creed 2, Red Dead Redemption, and Black Ops. Maybe my next vacation I'll spend in front of an xbox. I think I heard on G4 they are making a sequel to S.T.A.L.K.E.R.?

KreepingSpawn In reply to ??? [2011-04-10 16:56:57 +0000 UTC]

Splendid. the 'off' angle really makes this. I'm curious if you work on it 'straight' and then skew it after, or paint on the angle.
The dog is a great touch. Looks like a German pointer?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

ChrisReach In reply to KreepingSpawn [2011-04-10 19:26:42 +0000 UTC]

It is a german pointer haha, good eye. The thumbnail was originally at an angle. When I painted, I rotated the canvas frequently (new in CS5 and amazing feature that should have been there for years), but the actual file stayed at an angle from start to finish.

Actually if you look at my blog [link] there is some process shots of the piece. I haven't gone into it in detail but I'll probably update it later tonight with a better explanation and bigger WIP shots.

I guess what I'm trying to say is: Thank you!
