Description It is theorized that after nuclear war, a large amount of soot and smoke will be ejected into the Earth's stratosphere, creating an environment of reduced sunlight and cold weather for a period of years after the event.

As if there aren't already enough examples of atomic atrocities in history and in the the news *shakes fist as JR Oppenheimer*

A concept piece for the mysterious Uranium Club. Also, I submitted this to the IFX monthly challenge (the theme was 'Chilling') here: [link]

Edit: Thank you to =LadyFromEast and ^Voyager212 for suggesting and featuring my work! And thank you to everyone who commented and faved, it was a really nice surprise when I checked my messages this afternoon!

To my knowledge; the longest winter lasted about 2 years or so in a row somewhere in the medieval age when a supervolcano erupted, the formidable ash sky hided away the sun just enough for a mericless winter indeed.

Yeah, I'm passingly familiar with what I think they call the little ice age. If you look at a lot of Bruegel paintings they depict vast icy landscapes, I believe those were painted over those years. Thanks for commenting!

It is a great piece, very moody and dynamic - in a dead way

By the way, it is not only theory but a fact, that has also been proven after the eruption of Krakatau in the 19th century. Apparently the global temperature dropped by some measurable amount.

Haha yes. It is pretty dreary. And you're correct; the only difference is that was the result of natural processes. But I think the outcome would be similar. Thanks for the comment!

Thank you! Its kind of like the safety instructions on an airplane. When the oxygen masks fall you are supposed to help yourself first, then assist people next to you. He's looking out for number one, I think.

Very cool! I love the contrast of the red and the greys-gives this a very edgy and dramatic effect And i must say I really like the small detail in the dog and the skeleton compared to the bg/landscape!

This is genuinely eerie, especially after reading the name "Uranium Club" in the description... that's so cryptic and my interest is piqued. Amazing concept you've got going here. I love the flash of red in the middle of the cold. Makes me wonder who that guy is and what's his situation.

I can only approve, everyone should have a cape, it's a staple of every wardrobe. Especially ones with secret stripy linings!
(I actually do have a cape somewhere, not sure if that's worth admitting or not!)
