Description
This is my first Vampirella. Considering how many half nekid women I've been asked to draw over the years, that's kind of a miracle. I wasnt sure going in, but I ended up enjoying it. She's nice and simple and I was able to include a critter and some skulls. Good stuff. I was going for a Frazetta style Vampi, but it didnt quite work and I ended up with something else. It happens.Prismacolor cool and warm greys with white watercolor paint on vellum bristol board

THIS ONE IS NUTS CHRIS!!! I LOVE IT!! Was this a commission piece, for work, or just a personal project? Youd be AWESOME doing a entire book on her.

Shes dead on in my book! You got that look of her face right, like the first vampi Frank did for Warren publishing.

Looks cool. I think that the warm grays in the creature are bringing it forward, flattening your image (the tail is going back in space quite nicely, though and, as always, your blending is exceptional). In my experience it's best to keep the warms in the foreground because the cools will recede whenever possible. I think this is especially true of transparent/translucent media.

I understand what you're saying and that is true. I was thinking purely in a color contrast, but the affect you notice is a side effect.

Awesome work ..you even managed some depth between her and the critter great tail curve by the way but.. what happened to her bat motif in either the throat piece or the costume detail... looks more eagle or bird like..just wondering... love the scimitar earrings.

Thanks. I referenced a bunch if different pics of her from different artists. I think the suit was based on a Sanjulian painting. Everyone draws her different.

I think you did an amazing job of capturing the very exotic facial features Frazetta gave her; Vampi drawings alway looks too "caucasian" for my tastes

Thanks. It's all about that Frazetta bone structure and eyes. Big, high cheek bones and some pretty crazy eye shapes. That's the way alot of us see Vampi even though he didn't do a lot of work on her.

I absolutely adore the smooth gradients and surprising contrast you get with these! Lately I've found I unconsciously try to do this style to some extent. Thanks for sharing!

Thanks. It's something I try to use more too. Contrast is a powerful tool. It can be easily overused. If everything pops, then nothing does.

Oh, I also totally see a homage to Frazetta in the piece. Especially the way she comes off as sexy and alluring but not trashy. Frazetta had the whole sensual pose thing down whether the character was nude or not. Great job.

Thanks. Frazetta definitely had a unique way of drawing women that's very difficult to capture.

Well, I think you did a great job getting an awesome feel to the piece. Frazetta was a modern master of art and by what I can see, you may very well be on your way to the same. You never know.
