Description It seems I have trouble speedpainting in Photoshop. Mainly because I get distracted, and keep improving a picture until it's no longer a speedpaint.

I spent quite a while fiddling around with the colors and composition on this picture. It looks fairly quick, but I think I must have went through at least three different backgrounds. And at least as many color schemes.

I tried adding buildings, trees, clouds to add a bit more shape to the sky. In the end, I removed all those things, and decided to go for a clear night sky.

As usual, I'll upload minor edits if I decide to improve anything.

Minor edit: slight color change.

I love it! Also to me it is very reminiscent of the movie Dragonheart. The night sky was a good decision for this piece.

I tried to make the sky interesting. A flat, boring sky could easily kill the setting.

This deserves a little bit more attention, so I need to comment.
Of course I love the green dragon and the lovely illuminations and shininess it owns. It can be hard to make blue and green fit together as a colour combination, but I think you did a wonderful job.

Keeping the sky open like that makes it feel vast and immense. You adjusted for depth nicely with the lightening tones around the bottom and though the sky is SO clear you can see incredibly far and almost feel the fogginess to space that might exist from so many stars, rocks and particles filling it's void.

I aaaalmost wish the person wasn't there... but it definitely helps give feel for how huge the dragon is. It is neat to see her sitting on the dragon's hand. If the girl's arm was fully extended it would have helped draw a nice line from the girl to the moon and made her expression more incredible with aspiring awe, instead of a lazy point.

One of the most eye-catching features is those fine lines in the sky which I believe are shooting stars. They remind me of how you might see a strand from a spider web glimpse in the moonlight. It might have been really striking to have included a spider web using that technique somewhere in this picture, though I'm not really sure where you would put it.

Umm, last, I juuust noticed 2 small green dots in the foreground, one by the ground and the other behind the leg of the dragon. They look like either fireflies or just that mystical "essence" that you see in some fantasy games and pictures. A few more of them, perhaps even closer to the view, could have helped bring a bit more life to the foreground and made the viewer just that much closer to feeling alive in the picture. I suppose it would be challenging to keep these separate from the stars, so perhaps it would be best to keep them to a minimum, I'm not sure.

So wonderful piece! (Of course). I'm happy to have lots to say; it's always disappointing when I want to comment on a picture and all I can think of is "good job".

Keep it up!

Thank you for the awesome comment!
I'm glad you enjoy it, too.

I'm sort of in the habit of drawing a human in the scene, partially because I think it makes things easier to relate to, and partially because it helps define that sense of scale. I suppose including more plants and wildlife can help show size, too. I'll try and put a bit more thought about what else I can include in art.

Making a strong line with her arm probably would help the composition of the picture and add a stronger expression. That's an excellent point.

I added in those shooting stars, because I remember watching a few meteor showers when I've been on vacation, and because I think they help add a bit more depth to the sky, too.
I found a neat star field tutorial, recently. [link]

There are a few more of those firefly dots, but some tend to blend right in with the stars. I might add in a few more later tonight, but it's easy to go overboard with them, so I may not add in too many more. It was really dull until I added in those plants, as far as that feeling of life goes. Small details like that can really help a picture. I think I'm getting more reliable with them, making them not distract from the main focus of the picture and all.
I'll do my best to keep improving.

That's a nifty star field tutorial. I've never thought about the process so much as making a bunch of various dots, but there's definitely a method to making a night sky come to life.

Most of my comments/suggestions are merely muses that cross my mind when I look at your picture. For such a nice piece it's hard to find much to critique so a lot of the points I came up with are really minor, and it's hard to say what would actually improve the piece until you see what it looks like. But it might be fun to check out.

Details = love
Keep finding ways to fit more in.

I always enjoy your comments and suggestions. Your suggestions help me find new ways to approach pictures, and show ways that I can add in more detail.
Sometimes you catch obvious mistakes that I don't see because I spend a lot of time zoomed in on the picture.

You comments definitely help me learn and find new areas to improve in.
