Description
Paint tool: SAIFinally after a long break (for me) I managed to finish something .
This caresome raptor/ dino bird hybrid is a very caresome and protective father. This not really a realistiv drawing of a possible raptor species. I changed the head and added parts of a beak. Also I exaggerated the feathers at the wings. So its more the desing of a fantasy raptor.
Feathers are transfomered/evolved/mutated filament structures of the skin. They evolved as a protection against the weather, attraction of females, scaring of other predators. For balancing during movement/hunting they used their tail basically. It worked as a paddle and supported movement direction changes. Small "wings" brought maybe more stability or/and a higher agility, bigger "wings" were maybe used for display (flapping, jumping high, showing colours etc.) or the possibility to reach higher positions (reaching trees, rocks, big dinos) for several resons (again display, hiding from predators) and finally for flying. The evolution of something like the feather could have brought several benifits.

Hehe, the title is perfect and the picture is AMAZING. Looks so pre-historic! I think this is one of my favourite pieces of yours. Realistic or not, I can totally see this existing in the terrestrial past! You seem really knowledgeable about evolution and dinos as well O.o I'm quite impressed. What inspired you to draw this? This picture is pretty flawless. Looks so professional I'm in love with it!Β

To tell the truth this picture was almost lost. My hard disk, where I saved the unfinished drawing, died because ofΒ power breakdown. I lost the whole picture. I was so angry about it, it was not finished but look already really nice. So I had to repaint it from my memory. Well I saw raptors in a docu, they talked about the evolution of birds and why maybe wings evolved, I saw also alot of raptor drawings on dA, so i wanted to paint my own version. I love dinos, they were real ^^. A winged raptor is very close to a dragon .

well actually, the theory that feathers are modified scales has been proven wrong thanks to the discovery of sinosauropteryx, the tails of dromaeosaurs can willfully become stiff and acted as a rudder when running, and wings evolved as smaller theropods were trying to push themselves when running up a steep area.Β
