Description
The Royal Family of Hejaz: Sheikh Mukhtar II, Sheikha Fadila, Princess Amirah, and Crown Prince Kasim. At the time of the picture, Kasim was eight, and Amirah, two.These designs are temporary, practically. I tried to make the Queen look a bit like Emile Deschanel, but I failed miserably. But still it is better than the first draft, where she looked even younger! Fadila is sixteen years younger than her husband.
What I like most about this picture is Amirah. She looks like she had no idea where to look when the photo was taken
The caligraphy is a rendering of the phrase "peace be upon him", added after Muhammad's name in writing.

Thank you very much! I made the Sheikh’s beard to resemble an exaggerate goatee like that of Fire Lord Ozai (The Last Airbender). And Amirah is what gives life to his picture, when I look at it. She’s deliciously oblivious to the camera ^_^

Kasim and Fadila have gorgeous eyes, and love Amirah's innocent and surprised face. Well, most babies are easily distracted when taking a picture, so is normal ^_^. Nice job!

You know, one of the things that most struck me about "The Kite Runner" and, more recently, "A Thousand Splendid Suns" was the ethnic diversity in the Middle East, mainly, of course, Afghanistan. Green and blue eyes, red and even blonde hair! Only now I’m beginning to discover the size of my ignorance, what came to well, because I could find a plausible excuse for the distinctive appearance of the royal family. The branch of Fadila’s family, the House of Osman (of Turkey) originates from Caucasus.
I wanted to give this photo an informal touch – in the story, this is the photo that Kasim carries with him in exile, inspired by Zuko’s family portrait (more exactly , the one we see in the live-action movie). Kasim tries to protect his little sister from the evils of the world at this time so hard because she is the closest relative he has left now and he doesn’t wants to see all that sadness reflected on her, that has nothing to do with politics and war.
