I've been thinking of getting a pug tattoo for some time (owned a tan pug many years ago, and currently enjoy the company of a black pug named Guinness)... your Colonial Pug series is too full of amazing images that I would be thrilled to sport in permanent ink

In my dreams, I draw like this. Really, I can't get over your work - it has so many of my favourite little elements that make me drool uncontrollably.

Ha ha! He looks so comfortable and smug. I love how you tend to give your animal characters human hands. It makes your paintings instantly recognizable, I think.

i always thought that pugs have this arrogant expression on their faces... i love it

He looks very content and rich! Wonderful job. I like the color choices too.

I like it, but I think the front hand looks to skinny to fit the pug.

You are right. It looked more appropriate in the sketch, but that is the problem with ink: you have to live with such minor insufficiencies or redo the whole thing...

Otherwise it would be to damn easy, right?

So very dignified.

My Grandad (who passed away last year) loved pugs, so this is lovely to see. +fav

He looks just like how I've always pictured the old colonial overlords: rich, fat and bored out of their skulls.

Haha, wow. Pugs are my favorite kind of dog, I love seeing them in illustrations. This one seems perfect, you've really got the face down. The human hands are a little creepy.....

I love this. Fabulously done! The colors and illustration are just lovely. I really like the composition too, and you have this fantastic way of not wasting any space; everything contributes to the overall impression of this very strong character. Wonderful!

Wow, he's really got the face for it.

Again, beautiful work! I have to ask, is there a website you can recommend for information on period clothing?

cidaq In reply to Artoveli [2008-08-05 17:34:12 +0000 UTC]

Website??? I got lots of books stacked on my desk with old photos, paintings etc...
I do highly recommend the Hulton Getty Picture Collection, especially `150 Years of Photo Journalism`. And than there is `The Chronicle of Historical Costume`by John Peacock for a general overview.

It's just that one of the characters there seems to share certain mental and metaphorical features with the colonial pug
