Description An animated version of my GR-17 Gauss Battle Rifle.

The animation shows:
1. 7, 3 round bursts of the main ammunition (21 main rounds of the ammo mag's 32 total capacity).
2. Battery reloads.
3. Main ammunition reloads (notice the bolt slides back and forth at this point).
4. 4 anti tank rounds are fired (notice rounds being used up from secondary mag).
5. Anti tank rounds are reloaded.

Edit: I never really said that my Gauss weapons are what I imagine UNSC weapons to be like in the year 2669 - a number you get by adding 117 to 2552 - the Master Chief's service tag and the year the year Halo is set in. I also like to think of Section 8 and Halo being set in the same fiction, with Section 8 being set in 2669 so that their fictions can remain individual without being messed up by each other.

It's not in HALO 4. They have something... else.

Gotta Say this is awesome!!!

I wanted to know if it would be alright for me to use your designs for a Halo/Mass Effect crossover fan-fiction I am writing. Its called Halo Effect: Advent of the Federation (still in development) on Fanfiction.net. I'll be sure to give you the credit and send my reviewers this link

Why does it have two magazines AND a battery?

CipherZR032 In reply to Madbird-Valiant [2011-07-08 19:02:46 +0000 UTC]

well two mags for alternate ammo types without needing to reload and the battery for a decent amount of power as opposed to having just an inbuilt battery in the mags which would also take up space that could be used for ammo

Yah when i made the GR-17c (c variant has more firemodes)for Garry's mod, the anti tank rounds would kill the player from 50 meters away becuase it did 500dmg! [link]

the Anti Tank round at the end, not quite what I sujjested (Blows out of view all together)

Only thing I forgot to say today was perhaps a bit more quicker with the gap's between firing

'looks nice...
But what's with the blue flash? I understand that gauss rifle ought to look futuristic (despite the fact that the patent is more than a century old).

Good job.

I used the blue muzzle flash because Timesgate Studios (maker of Section 8) used blue for their Gauss rifles.
Idk y they did blue tho but I like it for Gauss weapons Bungie (Makers of halo) use a pale blue white for the anti vecl Gauss gun too.

Because it's shiney.

Truth be told, gauss guns don't make any flash. The bullets can make visible vapor trails because of the supersonic speeds, though (imagine planes breaking the sound barrier, only smaller).

I tried vapor effects but it didn't go to well

Yeah... vapour doesn't look very impressive...

Anyway... keep up the good work.

I have thought of a reason now for the blue flashes, which I had thought up since id made the cross section of the GR-17c but had never bothered to post it. My gauss weapons are powered by live plasma running throughout the guns, when fired the guns discharge excess plasma to stop the magnets from overheating. an advantage of this is that the bullets can carry minute magnetic fields so that they can "capture" any spent plasma while exiting the barrel of the gun and channel it to the tip of the bullet to aid in armour piercing ability.

I'm not at all sure how that works, I'm afraid that my education in electronics and electromagnetism has taken its toll on my ability so suspend my disbelief.

You would have to come up with some pretty convicing arguments as to how the plasma is powering the gun.

(few pointers:
1)bullets will not carry magnetic field, because ferromagentic materials needed as ammunition dont retain their magnetic polarity thanks to the plasma's temperature see:Curie temperature

2)Plasma itself has a HUGE magnetic field of its own, possibly screwing up the gauss rifle's operation

3)Even if the above weren't true, the plasma in tow of the bullet would have severly slowed it down.
)

Also, personally, I would never want to be this close to vented plasma. That stuff would melt your face. :3

actually plasma builds on on rail-gun rounds in real life when the us navy tests them there's always plasma building up behind the round from the friction caused by it travelling through the air at hypersonic speeds. you can see it in these two vids especially the second [link] [link]

DuncanDDante In reply to CipherZR032 [2011-06-19 11:31:31 +0000 UTC]

You sure thats plasma? That looks more like "simple" fire to me.

To be honest though, as far as my knowledge goes, most of the heat is not caused by air, but by the friction of the barrel, since railgun rounds need to physically touch both rails to generate the force that propells it.
See for yourself that once the projectile leaves the barrel, the fire basically dissapears.

Gauss rifle (which is what you claim to have) on the other hand doesn't have this problem, as the principle on which it work is diametrally different and the bullet is not required to have any contact with the barrel at all.

Oh by all means.

Science fiction still has the fiction part, I just like to see them both in equal measure.
