hey, thankyou! i'm really glad you like them TLS stands for 'translucent liquid sculpey', which is basically just clay but in liquid form! You can buy it in big bottles, usually just from wherever you buy your clay. There is also a Fimo version called Fimo Deco Gel, which is the same thing hope that helps you!

I love your work, it's amazing and I plan to follow your tutorials when exams are over and I can break out my clay
Just one question though: How come the clay pieces don't burn when you bake them a second time? Do you bake them for half the baking time each time, or do you bake them for the full time each time they go in the oven?
Thanks in advance, have a good day!

citruscouture In reply to xRedRockerx [2011-06-15 10:15:12 +0000 UTC]

Thankyou so much! I'm so glad you like my work I have 3 months off from uni at the moment so hopefully I can put out a couple more tutorials for everyone... In response to your question, it is completely fine to bake clay many times over for the full time, as long as you allow it to cool between baking - it is even thought to make the clay stronger! So yes - bake them for the full time on your packet each time Hope that helps!

Great tutorial, but I'm curious, why not acrylic paint?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

citruscouture In reply to ChibiKit1 [2011-02-09 08:27:21 +0000 UTC]

thankyou!
you can't use acrylics because they're water based, and when they're mixed with the clay the water evaporates and makes bubbles in the clay/makes the clay very brittle... oil paints are completely compatible with polymer clay, though or you could use alcohol inks, but i've never tried that!

I'll have to try this but first I need some more colours of clay (:

citruscouture In reply to desize1996 [2010-08-15 11:21:23 +0000 UTC]

i hope you do! and you can always make coloured clay by mixing in pastels if it's hard for you to get different colours

Wow. Great tutorial, very easy to follow.

I've only just gotten into using polymer clays, so it's always good to find out what I can potentially make. I'm especially eager to try using TLS, since I've seen a lot of fantastic work here on deviant art using it. Would you have any recommendations as to what's best to use with it, in terms of colouring?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

citruscouture In reply to LallaBelle [2010-07-25 07:24:19 +0000 UTC]

thanks a lot! TLS is great... i use both kinds - the fimo deco gel for sauces/things that need to be a little more transparent, and TLS for icing they both work for either though, but because i have access to both brands i choose to use them both... in terms of colouring, there are generally 3 different techniques - pastels, oil paints and coloured clay. with pastels, you need to get yourself a cheapy set of drawing pastels (NOT chalks)! you basically just shave a little into your TLS and mix! it's good, because it doesn't change the thickness of the clay. same thing with oil paints - get yourself a starter set of little ones if you dont have any already and mix in a TINY bit..you honestly need hardly any! you can't use acrylics here because it doesn't mix well with the clay, though then you can use coloured clay and mix it the way i showed you in the tute... if you want it thicker/thinner, just add more or less TLS until you get the consistency you want!

whoops, that was long... hope it helps

Wow thank you I never saw it like this. Whenever I try to attempt to make something like this it's hard because the clay isn't baked so it gets all warped. Thank you =]. I never thought of that.
