Hey! ^^

I have a question. How would you paint the outline of the mane and tail? I'm finding while I'm find with drawing the base of the mane, I'm having a hard time actually making realistic strands of hair. When I try to do it, it turns out looking flat and unrealistic.

Is there any way that you could prevent this, or is this all just a matter of time and practice?

Thanks!

Lots and lots of practice.

But make sure you're using the darker and lighter strands in the right places, too. That's what creates the effect of light hitting the mane, and and will eliminate flatness and add voume to the mane.

Also, referencing photographs, other tutorials, and even other manips might help you. It's really all about developing a technique that works for you and doesn't make you want to tear out your hair while you do it.

Good luck.

Okay, I'll just work it through slowly by constant practice. I just tried it yesterday and I couldn't get it to look right. It always seemed kind of fake and unrealistic looking. :3

And where would you find those referencing photographs, and what kinds of tutorials would you be searching for if you wanted to draw a mane or tail?

Thanks!

There are tons of tutorials here on deviantART specific to manes and tails: [link]

And you can use the same stock photos you use for your manips as reference for your manes and tails.

But practice will be the big thing. You may have to start over several times in order to find a method that works for you.

Okay, I'll get to work on it. Thank you very much, it's really helped me get to know how people draw these manes and tails.

Oh, yes. Last question here. Do you usually use the mouse to do this? Because I use a scrollish keypad and I can seem to make curvy waves with the cursor.
