Description The New York Central had several trains running between Chicago and the East Coast that existed primarily for hauling mail. Here a mixed A-B-A set of E-units slows slightly for the platforms in South Bend on a late October evening in 1966. The penalties for late arrival were significant. Dispatchers didn't mess with the mail!

In one way yes.... but I don't miss riding in trains that were cold cuz the steam generator couldn't meet the need.
