Description
A NorthWestern GP9 trailed by an Alco RS3 flies by with a short eastbound freight near my home in Glen Ellyn in 1966. Of course it would have been a better shot if I had been on the inside of the curve where the sun was... and where my house was!Related content

BNSF will do this upon leading into Argentine. In fact, my latest submission has a train coming off of the right-hand main onto the left-hand main about 8 track miles before the yard throat.
I also have an upcoming shot of an aircraft parts manifest leaving left-handed.

Well now that depends on your point of view but yes... they did and still do use left hand running. Since the UP took over everything is bi-directionally signaled but check out my Metra shots. Because the stations were built for left hand running they have kept the commuter districts that way.
Rumor has it that C&NW was built with British financing and some British engineers. In the 60's the center main was signaled bi-dir. The North main was signaled only for eastbound as you see it here and the South main was signaled only for westbounds.
When it comes right down to it though... it makes absolutely no difference.

This looks really dynamic the way the engine is tilted in the curve. I like it

I took a lot of pictures in this area. That track was super-elevated for 60 mph running.
