Yeah, you have very little chance at low level, and with a single engine the odds are significantly worse.

If you are going to have a bird-strike (not that you want to obviously) then you need to be as high as possible, and have as many engines as possible - a 747 is best I would guess, as losing 1 engine only drops you to 75% thrust.

I think the bigger irony (if it is that) is he survived a combat tour of Afghanistan as a Harrier, only to come to grief in a peaceful flying show...

Yeah, a bad day but I felt that it was right somehow to change the serial number of the Hawk I was going to post to that of Red 4 and make the text black. Not much of a tribute I know, but it is fitting I think...
