Description Part two of my sculpting tutorial. This one is more for the advanced sculptors but rookies can learn something from it too of course. The rest is pretty much self-explanatory.

I think it should be pointed out for new sculptors that the reason you make those cavities to add the new clay pieces is because if you don't then the clay will bulge out and ruin the shape. Then you have to use a rake or loop to get the proper shape again, which will ruin the clean lines in the process.

I don't think I have to give reasons for how I do things, if newbies choose to do it differently they'll soon figure out why I do it this way.

I must ask you, did you use special clay, or just standard modeling clay?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

ClayPita In reply to FlintofMother3 [2013-04-20 09:09:52 +0000 UTC]

It's special clay, please check my FAQ for more.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

FlintofMother3 In reply to ClayPita [2013-05-06 23:46:09 +0000 UTC]

Just did, I ask you beacuse most of the flexible stuff I had worked with cant withstand its own weight, and your sculptures seem to stand with no problem (and no structure) wich amazes me. maybe the difference in the weather has to do.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

ClayPita In reply to FlintofMother3 [2013-05-07 16:21:42 +0000 UTC]

Well, the material I use is extremely light so even very large sculptures or those with a poorly balanced anatomy can stand. But of course I also have some sculptures that just won't stand and keep falling over.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

FlintofMother3 In reply to ClayPita [2013-05-07 17:33:22 +0000 UTC]

The only flexible material of my like so far has been plasticine (or modeling clay I donΒ΄t know how they would call it around you place)it works for stubby figures but when I try to make slender ones it doesnΒ΄t hold up, so if you can give me the name of the material you use, maybe I could find it around here or in the internet, and I will gladly appreciate it.

I think I mentioned the name of the material in my FAQ, but anyway, it's name is Aquasoft Modelling clay for children and the brand is Staedtler.

A well-thought out and conceptually-clear tutorial! You are such a master craftsman, I am in awe, and a bit envious I especially like how you cut-and-insert the finer details of the sculpture. I look forward to the wonder that will be part 3!
