Well this is rather disappointing… I installed the UXThemePatcher, and installed modded the files for themeui.dll, uxtheme.dll uxinit.dll by replacing the ones from UXThemePatcher, I reboot the system, and then I go to change the theme, it applies it and then it just starts flashing the screen black and white.

Windows 10 - Update: (10586), using the x64 files, because 64-bit OS. It's a pain in the arse with Windows because Microsoft removed the ability to theme the system. :/

if you have changed 3 file themeui.dll, uxtheme.dll uxinit.dll and restart complete. I'm sure that error not by 3 file themeui.dll, uxtheme.dll uxinit.dll
You only have been error "starts flashing the screen black and white.
" when you use theme of windows 10 RTM (10240) for Windows 10 November Update (10586)

Duh I read the warnings, the obvious parts of it all, I checked the versions, and I used the correct one for the version of Windows I was currently using, but it made the screen flash black and white...

Before update I was on RTM 10240, it works fine, then updated to 10586, re-patched the theme files again, using the correct ones, NOT the ones from 10240, but 10586 ones, and that's where it caused issue with the screen flashing. All those files you mentioned dropped into Sys32 folder, error caused by the 3 modified patched DLL files.

Installed it, followed the directions to the letter, and wound up having to restore my system to the previous restore point.
Buyer beware... Definitely make sure to make a backup restore point AND a recovery disc or USB drive before installing this and switching themes, as you may wind up with an endless flashing gray screen.
I was able to get the theme to change for about five seconds before the display just crapped out.

Cleodesktop In reply to CTAsasin [2016-01-25 08:12:11 +0000 UTC]

If you do true all steps ( not wrong x32 and x64). I'm sure it's good

"switching themes, as you may wind up with an endless flashing gray screen" This case only occurs when you use theme of windows 10 RTM (10240) for Windows 10 November Update (10586) and opposite.

CTAsasin In reply to Cleodesktop [2016-01-25 13:22:55 +0000 UTC]

I appreciate your response. I did follow all steps carefully.

The themes I downloaded claim in about a dozen different places that they're for the November update.
At any rate, it's risky business... just wish there were a better way of using themes on Win 10.

Since I installed Windows Update "KB3124263" which updated the Windows 10 Build to 10586.63. When I replace those 3 dll files it now causes Start Menu, Taskbar Volume, Taskbar Calendar, and WI-FI network manager not to work.

Well, it took a little researching, but you would need to factory reset Windows 10. When you boot up into the logon screen, hold shift and click restart. You would boot up in to recovery. If you did a system restore, you wouldn't have to do this. But since I didn't do this, I had to factory reset. Anyway, when you get to the recovery choose reset Windows 10 or something like that. Make sure to check the option to back up your account. Let it do its thing and it should be working now. Hope this helps!

MrGRiM01 [2015-12-23 21:04:20 +0000 UTC]

Good news I was able to find an alternative to using patched system files from the RTM build
Doing it this way you can use as many styles as you like with Uxstyle.

1. Rename the default C:\Windows\Resources\Themes\aero\aerolite.msstyles to aerolite.msstyles.bak
2. Make a new folder in C:\Windows\Resources\Themes\aero\ called aerolite.msstyles
3. Put your theme in the aerolite.msstyles folder C:\Windows\Resources\Themes\aero\aerolite.msstyles\My Theme\My Theme.msstyles
4. Make sure your .theme file uses this new directory.
5. Select your theme from the personalization menu.

So now you just use the aerolite.msstyles folder as the normal theme folder and you can have as many themes as you like.

Note that if you do sfc/scannow or if you do a large Windows update to say Rs1 the themes will most likely be lost, so keep a backup of your themes.

Not sure what that would result in, I guess it would just fall back to using the aerolite theme which could be a good thing as these large updates seem to break any older themes anyway.

You had me all the way up until step 4. I'm not sure how to make the .theme use the directory, nor am i sure which directory it should be using, the one the .msstyle is stored? I'm trying to install this theme gsw953onda.deviantart.com/art/… . I'm pretty sure I've followed 1-3 correctly but in case i haven't I'll post a ss of my folder. imgur.com/a/oahbH
