Description
Created for the Return to Ravnica set of Magic: The Gathering. Brief called for the creature to be "pure shadow." A shadow on a wall wouldn't be very interesting so I thought it would be cool to have the top opaque and let it become transparent as it goes down. The perspective stuff was kind of fun, brought back lessons I remembered reading in an old Lee Ame's perspective drawing book as a kid.Related content

I can't stop looking at this picture, the transparency is genius and I love the color and it's ve-ery eerie. Thebeast istelf is amazing but the fact that it's a living shadow makes it twice as cool.

the effect that goes with this just makes it more frightening then any of the other black I've gotten.

Reminds me of a quest in Darksiders 2 when you need to kill some spectral creatures that can be seen only with a neckclace. By the way very nice and very well made.

I thought the same thing, they look almost exactly the same and are transparent.

I had forgotten about those guys! I watched that show as a kid, surprised I didn't think about them.

Your one looks like a big queen like bad ass shadow though Not the sort of thing you want to meet in a dark alley.

"You want to hide, in the dark. It sounds strange to hide from a shadow in the dark but it makes sense, really. When a shadow is in the shade it's vague. It doesn't have an edge. When they're in the light though... They're defined. Sharp. They can cut you."
I'm not sure if I read that somewhere or made it up on the spot but that's what this made me think of.
The way the top is near the lamps is solid but it slowly fades into it's own shadow, is very clever.
I only wish I could create digital art this good. I always think my sketches make my ideas look rather underwhelming...

This is why people are afraid of the dark.
Excellent and unconventional portrayal of a lurking shadow!
