Description
Environment concept for a personal game idea. I really could have stopped a lot sooner and still have established all the major elements but I wanted to play around with some painting techniques too. CheersPainted with Photoshop

WHOA. A Daily Deviation, I'm really amazed (and pleased). Didn't see that coming but it's very awesome. Thanks to everyone who stops by to look and all my friends who keep watching my hapless progress with art!

I want to try to replicate this kind of landscape for one of my own Ideas. What brushes are you using? What tools? It looks very good!

Everything was handled in PS. Any of the versions that have custom brush options can do the job. One of the main brushes I used was a custom square brush set to follow stroke direction, opacity sensitivity and medium texture. Also used a grainy splatter brush to add small detail. The lasso tool was often used to create clean edges for the rocks and harsh shadows. Try working it up in black and white only first then when the values are solid add color in with Overlay and Color layers.

Staggeringly beautiful. The landscape is stark and bleak, though not at all empty. The place is made deadly by the jagged knives jutting out of the rocky ground, and the rider's hesitation is both apparent and understandable. I could go on just about endlessly about this piece, but I think I'll spare you. Excellent work!

I'm not good at arts, but the way you show the distances and the shadows, moreover the solitude and the horseman who softly breaks this very impression of the waste land... Wonderful.

those rock textures are very similar to bob eggletons moon rock textures. this reminds me of something crossed between one of bob's paintings and a scene from Shadow of the Collossus, GREAT JOB!
