Description
Book cover image for Curses and Smoke by Vicky Alvear Shecter and published by Scholastic. The scene was originally going to be much more involved, more characters in different poses but we ended up focusing on just the main couple. They were to be primarily silhouetted with some of Pompeii and Vesuvius visible. Check out how the final book cover ended up looking here .I know there is a movie coming out about a young couple in Pompeii using a similar image and yes, it is a complete coincidence.
UPDATE: Thanks so much to Ginryuzaki for suggesting my image and Aeirmid for featuring it! And the big thanks to everyone that has stopped in to take a look!

Why did Pompeii get ruined?
Because the Doctor didn't stop the volcano.

All I can think of is the legend of Hercules. Herculaneum was another city destroyed just like Pompeii by the same eruption, and it was named after Hercules. It was said he tried with all his might to save the city, and for his failure he banished himself far away with his consort Hebe, the Goddess of Youth.

Why supposedly? They actually found the city buried under ground.

I have always been fascinated by the story of Pompeii ever since childhood and was lucky enough to go there a few years ago whilst visiting Italy. This is absolutely stunningly beautiful! And, as for the recent film (I assume you mean the one starring Kit Harrison) - don't bother with it, it's really not up to much IMHO!

Just amazing! Reminds me of the end of the Pompeii movie with Kit Harrington and Emily Browning *-*
I love the dramatic scene in your image. Especially the girl's expression.

Didn't know about a movie, but just saw the Pompeii exhibit yesterday at the Franklin Institute in Philly. Apparently, most of the population got out safely while the 2,000 or so residents that perished stubbornly decided that they would ride it out. Whatever it was, it wouldn't be that bad. I found that interesting and very parallel to situations in present day.
Great effects work as always.
