Description Environment concept for a personal game idea. I really could have stopped a lot sooner and still have established all the major elements but I wanted to play around with some painting techniques too. Cheers

WHOA. A Daily Deviation, I'm really amazed (and pleased). Didn't see that coming but it's very awesome. Thanks to everyone who stops by to look and all my friends who keep watching my hapless progress with art!

No, I can't say I have. It's kinda of funny, I've had numerous people tell me that the piece reminds them of different places from books. I really didn't have anything in mind when I was doing it but the general idea of the place.

I think people say it because the whole scene and setting is very err...iconic?? (damn english!- hope used good word )

Awesome work! Very barren and desolate...it makes you feel alone, probably like the rider. It reminds me of a scene from The Lord of the Rings.
Excellent job!

I loved so much of the cinematography and locations in LOTR. Very beautiful and fantastic without being "over the top".

Wouldn't want to get lost there, but it sure is nice to look at!

That part of the Daily Deviation makes me laugh, possible because it's true and I'm not the person sitting on the horse in the middle of no-where.

It very much reminds me of Caspar David Friedrich. Very nice work.

The entire landscape, specifically huge SHAPES looming out of the fog, I think, really invokes a visceral excitement at least in myself, both a fear and a drive to explore. I would love to play a game in this setting.

this is amazing!
it reminds me of a book series called "Enwor Saga" by a german author "Wolfgang Hohlbein", a great fantasy-writer.
i recommend those books to you, although i don't know what kind of stuff you're reading.. IF you read...

however, this picture has an amazing atmosphere and i'd love to see more of this world!

well deserved DD!

I haven't heard of the works before but I'll put it on my list to check next time I'm at the bookstore.
Actually, I enjoy reading; currently reading the first book in the Wheel of Time series.
You will very likely to see more of this world so stick around

cool! i'm gonna add you to my watchlist, and about the books: since the author is german, the books are written in german but i've heard that many (many!) of his books have been translated.. so i'm pretty sure you can find this saga..

Unfortunately, I didn't take snapshots during this one but I did of the Viking Raid pic so I added a link in the text to where you can find an image of it's creation stages.

GatesuRyu In reply to ClintCearley [2009-09-26 22:40:03 +0000 UTC]

Thanks for the link, I didn't notice it before. I'm amazed how rough you start a painting! Did you even know you were going to paint viking ships when you started out, or discover it along the way?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

ClintCearley In reply to GatesuRyu [2009-09-27 04:47:33 +0000 UTC]

I don't always start out this rough. Sometimes I don't have anything in particular I want to do so I just throw some pixels on and see what I see in it. Though to be honest, it was my brother who mentioned longboats and I went from there
