edit 4/21/2020 - i dont agree with this take anymore. im not active on this account & havent been since 2017 so ive just never gotten around to adding this addendum to the description. i'll leave it up, y'all can still use it, but i'm not transmed anymore, infact since im cis i never should have involved myself in trans discourse in the first place, but i was young, i was i think 14? maybe 15 when i posted this, you live and you learn. i'm 18 now and i know a lot better than i did. so... yuh. use this if you want, don't if you don't, but this is not a take i agree with anymore lolif you think you don't need dysphoria to be transgender or nonbinary, you're implying that you woke up one day and made a choice to be transgender or nonbinary. trans and nonbinary people experience dysphoria. while it might not always be Self Hateβ’, it's awful based on my encounters with trans/nb people. dysphoria comes in many different forms, it might just be severe discomfort with your genitalia or it could be as extreme as wanting to mutilate your body. if you believe that you don't need dysphoria, you're making actual trans and nb people look like a joke. i don't care if you think this makes me "TRANSFOBIK!!!!!!!!!!!!!11!!1!!!!one1!!!!" because, as i said, if you seriously believe that you don't need dysphoria, you imply that being transgender or nb is a choice you can randomly make. tucute are the reason that idiotic genders like "cancergender" have appeared on this website.

I feel like people are conflicted, between the desire to fit in and the desire to stand out. Many Non-binary people understand that being Non-binary makes them part of a group, but they also want to feel unique so they find/create gender identities that are hyper-specific, but still fall under the Non-binary umbrella. While I feel such labels to be unnecessarily specific and confusing, I also don't feel that they are necessarily invalid or harmful. On the other hand, people who find/create "gender" identities simply to label themselves as part of the LGBT community, even when they're not, are immature and dangerous.Β

Tumblr is the reason that I take like 98% of "Gender Identities" with a grain of salt. Within the Non-binary/Genderqueer community, there is such a huge array of individuals that you could literally create thousands of labels to signify each person's "feelings". Once we have an inexhaustible list of genders, it becomes much too easy to start sneaking in bullshit ones that have nothing to do with Gender Identity. I think that its important for people to realize that Non-binary/Genderqueer is purposefully broad so that it can contain anyone outside of the binary. If you aren't Cisgender or Transgender, then you are Non-binary/Genderqueer. It's that simple.Β

Excuse me for butting in, but I don't feel like your statement is true. While I don't necessarily think that gender dysphoria is absolutely required in order for a person to be transgender, I definitely don't think that wanting to be transgender is enough for a person to then be transgender. There is this emphasis within the LGBT community on how people "identify", but I think that we often forget that gender identity is not something that we control. It is not something we can choose, regardless of what we want.Β
