i can't belive I didn't already upload this! Its now part of my etsy store's new banner: www.clockworkzero.etsy.com cause i like it so much. That black backdrop is actually a postal box we bought last year. heh. I think it still works even if it has nothing to do with the scarab.
The pocket watch base is numbered at the back with the notation "Pat March 6th 1888". I'm not sure if this is the date it was made - but it would likely be made around this time - because they update the patent stamps quite frequently. It also has a numer 115638 on the back. I believe it to be well over 120 yrs old, but it is in excellent condition. I love the starry pattern.. and it inspired me to use the vintage blue glass .... as if it were night.

The swirl pattern on the back of the watch is called 'Pearlage' which is a special carving technique used to decorate watch bridges & mechanisms for a more dramatic effect when you move the watch back and forth under light.
