There is something so romantic about certain elements. Skeleton keys are one of my favorite things. This lovely long key prominently features the number 2 in the center.

The key itself is about 3 inches (7.5cm) long and is a very sturdy steel. There isn't any rust on it - it is a matte gray - gunmetal - with a bit of wear. Perhaps it was carried around for many years, slowly rounding off the edges which really gives it a lovely feel.

I chose beautifully detailed wings to go with this piece. To me these two elements: keys and wings are a lovely symbol - not just of steampunk jewelry - but of romance. They remind me of guardian angels. Unlocking flight. The wings are different from many of the other wings I've worked with - stamped actually - out of brass. To create an aged look I hand tinted them and then gave them a hint of bronze-green - very dark though. It picked up the pattern of feathers quite well. The wings are sturdy but not heavy, but do have a look at the macro photo - close up - to give you a real sense of the detail.
