Overall, this velvet painting is a surrealistic interpretation of the Nintendo Cereal System (with many references thrown in).Under the piranha plant/Alien: Ceci n'est pas une pipe ("This is not a pipe") from René Magritte’s famous The Treachery of Images.
Mario’s speech bubble: Is in Italian - “…o un cereale de prima colazione” Translation: “…or a breakfast cereal”
Left half of the cereal bowl: There is one mushroom from every Mario game in there.
Right half of the cereal bowl: Red and blue heart cookies, as that is the only thing he “ate” in Legend of Zelda.
Old man (upper right): The Old Man from Legend of Neil. He looks outstanding on black velvet. I highly recommend the series if you have a high tolerance for crude humor and/or if you have played the original Legend of Zelda for the NES. Watch it here .
The Link sprite: It is in the “holding a fragment of the Triforce aloft” pose, pouring Lon Lon milk into the cereal.

Thank you so much! I'm experimenting with oils for my next work, but with little success. I may be one of the rare velvet painters who prefers working with acrylics.

I donno, man. The heart cookies I could wolf down, but the eyes on the mushrooms remind me too much of calamari. You can't have calamari for breakfast.
