I went ahead and took a quick aside from working on the poster to put this little bit together for my Written Script page. The original picture had him wearing a shirt and there were pony butts in the background, so I took care of that. That right side looks a little bare, though. Oh, well. Maybe I'll add more grass patches later on.

With this vector, I experimented with two new kinds of stroke methods. The first is mutual clipping, which I used for a couple parts in the mane and to work out that thinner line on his muzzle. ChainChomp2 uses them a lot, so I thought I'd give them a try. So far I like them a lot, they're just a lot more work. The other new thing is adding stroke effects to the lines instead of converting them to an object in order to get the tapered ends. This is way worth it. It turned out I had made the lines a tad too thick the first time around and it would have been a total nightmare trying to redo all those other lines had they been converted to an object instead. The have their pros and cons. I think the pros outweigh the cons, though.

I would suggest trying out Ponyscape from PonyscapeVectors . It is an Inkscape derivative made by flutterguy317 from MLP-VectorClub . It has some really useful features like power strokes that allow you to create tapered strokes very easily. There should be some tutorials back in the Ponyscape group. I use it and it is really nice.

I've heard about PonyScape and have thought about trying it out sometime. Part of the reason I haven't yet is because several of the vector artists I follow say Inkscape handles certain things better. Inkscape's Path Effect Editor does do a pretty darn good job at tapering, though. The only thing I can think of where the tapering could be improved is if they added a handle right on the line you're editing that controls the length of the taper. I'll still give it a shot sometime soon.

Ponyscape lets you change the width at any point on a stroke so you can taper from wherever you want to anywhere else. It is a bit buggy so you need to save more often than inkscape, but I find the added features to more than make up for it.

That does actually sound really useful. It's at least worth a try, then. I'll see if the bugs are worth overlooking so far.

There are some other nice things like inverse clips and gradient meshes. If you have any questions about it feel free to ask me.

Usually I'm a self learner, but if I end up with questions, you're the one I'll come to.

I'm the same way so I totally understand.
