Description UPDATE: Only after I began posting this piece did I realize the position of his hands was all wrong for the drawing of an arrow. Now the little guy should hit his mark!

In the past I've worked almost exclusively in pastel. I prefer it for portraits, but for my illustrations I've always regretted the loss of the line work found in my sketches. Not so with this little mouse. I was pretty pleased with how he turned out.

My good sir, this is simply outstanding! You see, I'm just a n00b in the art world. But did you do this all by hand (pastel) or did you use some digital help? Thank you!

TOO CUTE. He doesn't even need weapons! His cuteness alone is deadly!

Fantastic! He is definitely an intimidating mouse.

Thanks. I can't remember what my notes to that image say, but I have plans to create a context for his marksmanship. Can't decide if it will be friendly competition or imminent peril. And I'm not sure if I spelled imminent right.

Haha, I'm no sure either, so no worries.

He looks pretty serious - perhaps a perilous competition of some sort?

I always liked the cover illustrations for that series. Can't remember the illustrator's name just now. Eventually I plan to place this archer in a greater scene. It's one of many, many things on my To-Do list.

Hm. I like the series. A bit predictable, but well-written.

Unfortunately predictability has become the norm for most things - book, movies, music. The industry churns it out as fast as it will sell. I'm sure the industry machine doesn't care if its clever. The only care if it will sell.

Nuts. Thank goodness for fanfiction. I'm doing one of all the video game stars...League of Extraordinary Games.

That's very encouraging. Thanks! I hope all my drawings remind people of the book they used to read.

I like it. Is this a character for a graphic novel. He looks cooler than the other "medieval mice" characters out there.

Cloverfish In reply to JosephCrocono [2010-07-14 13:11:36 +0000 UTC]

No, not a graphic novel. I just started drawing and the lines became a mouse with a bow.

He looks awesome! The colors, face and pose are all top notch.

The one thing I do notice is that the hands are furred (furry?), while mice actually have none there. And the feet are a bit big thinking that they are relatively small in real life.

Cloverfish In reply to MrBIGAL [2010-07-13 18:33:46 +0000 UTC]

Glad you like him. You make some good points with the observations, but my defense is that he is also drawing a bow which is not usual for mice.

Hey, I hadn't noticed the bow! Just kidding, like I said it's a great piece.

I just couldn't resist the lure or the "Critique Requested" flag

Keep up the great work.
