This, and the upcoming next three pages, are going to be an important look into the life of one of Work-Study's most underused characters: Katherine. Just for the record, I definitely do not endorse Zeek's message here. It is true that Zeek hates anime, but his primary concern here is to see to it that he screws over Katherine's attempts at getting a PHD for the umpteenth time. Also, I really love what Jeff did with the Chalkboard as that simply wasn't in the script that I gave him at all.

I couldn't help but feel a sense of Irony when making this one; I actually came up with the blackboard idea spontaneously, although I later was reminded of a similar gag used back on page 53 .

There are some thing in the world I just can't stand: bureaucrats, Jon Stewart, Twilight, disturbing kiddy shows, and now this jackass. Don't get me wrong, Work Study is hilarious, but this character just pisses me off. And it's not just because I'm an anime/manga fan, but also because I find so many parallels with my own professors.

Unfortunately, I too have known Professors like Zeek; that's part of how he got to be in Work-Study in the first place. If he pisses you off, then the mission is accomplished; no one is really meant to ever like Zeek, not even in the slightest.

If I may make a suggestion; I know it's part of the humor that he always gets away with this shit, but just once I think it would be most satisfying to see Zeek get his.

Well, I don't really want to comment either way on such potential future story developments; however, if such a thing were to happen, then it would surely only transpire as the culmination of a massive story-arc. So, in other words, only time will tell.

I hate to say it.... but almost all the art teachers in my highschool had similar views. They were heavily anti-anime. All anime-influenced people got lower grades. Well except one teacher, but he retired half way through my first year. I was getting A's, then when he was replaced, I got C's. Funny that.
There's a reason I only took one year of art then said 'screw it'. I don't learn well if I can't find any common ground with my instructor, sad as it is.
And yes... I see the irony.

yeah i agree i made a poster project with anime characters over it and my teacher rejected it.. The reason he rejected it is he does'nt like anime that really pissed me off for all those hardwork all i get is a big reject...

I mean, I understand the teachers want to encourage you to try other types of 'art styles' but what makes one kind superior to the other? And telling them anime is unacceptable is not ecnouraging them to try new things, it just breeds contempt.

Yeah, Zeek is like a culmination of all the bad traits of teachers who let their opinions get in the way of education; which, when you factor in the fact that Zeek is a very opinionated man on a good many subjects, is a really bad thing for some of his students.
