Description

April 19, 2018 Albuquerque New Mexico

Our beloved cottonwood was struck by a 95 mile per hour micro-burst of twisting winds.  A single limb weighting more than 1k pounds fell into the back yard.  In its last act of love, perfectly missing every structure it would have definitely destroyed had it landed on.  We've been delighted to have this magnificent being adorn our yard and shelter our home from the piercing New Mexico for more than twenty five years.   But because of this terrible injury the tree has been found to be compromised beyond repair so on  April 30th our mighty cottonwood will be taken down.  More pix to follow.

Yes we are lucky - the fall was incredibly perfect we're going to leave the stump - about 3' high - in place - cottonwoods are very fast growing trees and we should have decent sized "sprouts" in about three years

yeah.... but they won't be strong at the base of the tree. the middle of the stump will rot out the multi-trucks will fall over... better to cut the stump. they will still sprout from the base & by the time they are grown up, they will be rooted into the rotted stump in the ground & won't fall over....

Too bad that this happened.
It is also a bad thing that it will not be possible to save the tree.
