Description

April 19, 2018 Albuquerque New Mexico

Our beloved cottonwood was struck by a 95 mile per hour micro-burst of twisting winds.  A single limb weighting more than 1k pounds fell into the back yard.  In its last act of love, perfectly missing every structure it would have definitely destroyed had it landed on.  We've been delighted to have this magnificent being adorn our yard and shelter our home from the piercing New Mexico for more than twenty five years.   But because of this terrible injury the tree has been found to be compromised beyond repair so on  April 30th our mighty cottonwood will be taken down.  More pix to follow.

I'm sorry about the beautiful tree. But I'm glad you didn't get hurt.

we're going to leave the stump - about 3' high - in place - cottonwoods are very fast growing trees and we should have decent sized "sprouts" in about three years

thanks Dave - I did check and with our $1k deductible and the fact the tree didn't break anything - quite the amazing feat in itself so we did not pursue a claim

Albuquerque often sits in the middle of the jet stream now that climate change makes weather more severe  the only damage done was to the electrical wires - leaving several square miles around without power for half a day - thankfully the power company considers such occurrences Acts of God and does not assign blame or seek monetary compensation   As it is - we'll be paying almost $5k to have it removed

wow.. that's a ton.. if ya wanna cheat a little.. and  break somethin..and put part of the limb on it.. most home insurance policies will pay for what broke and to at least remove the limb that fell.. ..some just have a flat amount to remove trees or limbs that fall without doing damage.. and some pay nothing.. ..worth a check
