Description Who knew after the Stonewall Inn riots - Christopher Street Greenwich Village NYC NY - of June 1969 in New York City I'd help organize a gay rights organization and spend ten years speaking publicly about the lack of rights for ten percent of citizens.

Who knew those efforts would see the legalization of marriage between humans who love one another despite their gender as well as establish the legal safety net for those who identify differently from their original birth structure.

Who knew!

Same sex couples cannot officially get married in Hungary, only enter into civil partnership.
I have a Norwegian collueague, André, the one who owns the little Jack Russel Terrier, Aja, he and his husband have been married for 13 years now.

Hi Mária,
As always many thanks for your thoughtful comments.  How are you?  Ready for Summer?
How nice to know you have such a close friendship with Aja.
I understand Hungary is very conservative so the ability to have civil partnerships is very encouraging.
Let me know how you're doing when you have the time Carole

Hi Carole,
Thank you, I'm fine.
I am part ready for Summer part nervous about Summer as we have high season in Summer, so we have a lot more work now than during the rest of the year.

Well, André is my colleague, I only saw Aja through facebook. She has her own facebook page and I know that André is very fond of her.

I think just about everyone knows now...except for Twitter-ly Dumb  and his Orcs. Him and Pence will set this country back into the Stonewall Age if they get their dithers.
Bless you for your courageousness, Carole, in a time that could have easily ended in death, you stood tall and your stood proud and made a difference

It was a frightening time - homosexuality was illegal - described as a mental illness that could be treated by involuntary commitment with electroshock treatments a standard.  Amazing things have changed so much in my lifetime - grateful and hopeful Trump and his Orcs don't drag us back to the Stonewall era for sure.

Thanks again for your insightful comments Richard

I'm not gay so I can only imagine what you guys had to endure but I'm so glad you made it through and made a difference while doing it
Some of your dedication back then probably had a lot to do with East Lansing stepping up to the plate now and doing the right thing in regards to this farmer's prejudice

Hi Richard - thanks so much for the link -

The Matthew Shepard matter www.nytimes.com/1998/10/10/us/… was one of the first atrocities made public that started the needle moving in the direction of equality.  Now it seems economic sanctions are working well in trying to preserve equality - even O'Reilly (still much supported by his viewers/listeners) was removed because business decided to stop supporting him.

Not that I think business is especially moral, but in this era of public opinion becoming much more immediate and powerful, business especially susceptible to public pressure seems to be helping rather than hurting lately.

But Trump seems hell bent on making America a pariah in internationally.  It's absolutely astounding that a senile old white man can do so much damage in such a short time - and worse - that so many Americans support him.  We are definitely living the flip side of the Taliban state!   First Bush 2 gets appointed rather than elected - than this country actually empowers a black president only to have the backlash for that action take us back to the dark ages.

Better stop now - as I feel a full time RAGE is emerging and I don't want to go down that rabbit hole today.  Hope you're well and thanks again for your insights.

Carole

He is the pig of pigs. An embarrassment to the whole country. Each night before I sleep I pray for him to drop dead and I am horrified each morning when I wake and see that he is still alive.

I thought Bush II was the worst I'd have to suffer in my lifetime - gosh was I wrong
I'm nearing 75 years old and remember things were often fragile in our country - but this
this is something beyond imagining - something deeply disturbing - I hate to think evil
but can find no other concept that applies.  Thanks for being a sane sounding board
