Wow, the detail of her dress is absolutely GORGEOUS. The folds fit her body so perfectly; how do you do it?! I love the color of the dress too The coloring and shading on his tux is phenomenal as well. Black is one of those colors that are so difficult to shade with, but you really did an amazing job bringing out those folds and highlights! I think my favorite part about the whole piece is the fact that they are center stage while everyone else is faded into the background, I think that adds a really nice touch and keeps it from being too 'busy', really smart move, Chris!
I really like their facial expressions as well, especially the female's gaze looking up to him; very elegant!
I swear I don't think your scraps show up in my notifications! I can't believe I'm JUST NOW seeing this. *goes to snoop for other things I may have missed*
Wonderful work though, dear; love, love, love it!

Ugh! Black fabric!!! I know, right? I mean, it does get a little easier every time I work with it, but still, I remember that first time was so scary. But thank you. All the things that youΒ commented on are all things that I was actually trying to achieve, so it's nice to hear that I hit near the mark.
As to the scraps...Β yeah, I dumped this in there prematurely, I suppose. I'll be more patient in the future. Β

Black is still scary for me o___o It has gotten easier though over time, but certain colors like red and green; when it comes to skin anyway, are still a pain in the butt! Dx This really is a lovely piece though, you should showcase it in your gallery!

This is beautiful I love the vibrant colours you used on their clothes and hair, and the way you drew the people in the background with enough detail to make out body parts but gave them all the same generic "filler colour" works really well to add a sense of number.

This is brilliant! The way you did their hair with watercolor is nothing short of spectacular and I LOVE Jane's dress. It's beautiful.Β

Your icon makes me giggle. It's almost distracting.
Watercolour is pretty fun, actually. And... yeah... it's... okay. I like the actual original more, but I can't find a way to save it from my scanner without making it so... harsh? The actual piece is much softer. Maybe I should go play with it some more. See if I can't save it.

Aww-aww another Lokane fan art! You are really smitten them, do you? ^^
The dress is really shiny! Is it sateen ? And the green also very good choice, remembering it is some kind of Loki's unofficial color
Personally from all element on this picture, I really like Loki's expression... It's so complex, but still tender. But I can't say the same thing with Jane, somehow she seems little bit off for me. Also good work on making the background in monochrome, so we can see Loki and Jane as the vocal point clearly
PS: again, really envy with your watercolor skill!

LOL!!! Oh, I don't know if I'd say smitten. I just like to draw them.Β It makes me happy. And the greens, gold and black... it's just a lovely scheme overall.
You know what's funny and super frustrating about this picture? The original that I have in my hands looks... better? But I can't get it to look right on here no matter what I do. That, and the fact that my husband thinks that the problem is with the guy, in that he's too gaunt, whereas he thought Jane was perfect. Men... Unless you mean her face? Anyway, I'm glad you could read enough of his face, considering I smothered half of it in hair.

Heeeei, even though Hiddlestone's face is little bit gaunt (I think it's because his awesome high cheekbones) doesn't mean he can't be super hot too, right?! (just ask his massive fan base) beside compare to Cumberbatch, I think Hiddlestone's face still more... Understandable, I guess? (I will not deny it, Cumberbatch's face IS odd, but I still love him with all my heart) and about Natalie Portman, I know and believe she is a good actress (in fact I really like her) but I think Thor is not her best performance
Personally I think you did great job on Loki in this picture. Sometimes we don't have to see full face and expression in order to get the feeling. If I have to point the weakness in this piece, I think it's more in Jane's part.. Somehow her face looks -I don't know how to say it properly- hollow? Pls don't kill me because of this

LOL!!! God, I love you.
No. I'm not going to kill you. Your comments are always valid and I always appreciate them, my dear. Always. I find, that if you zoom in, it actually looks like her... and yes. I will agree with you on her expression bit. I SHOULD have drawn her facing into him,... but I wanted to draw her face SO badly that if overrode my common sense as to what would have looked better artistically. And I could have messed with her expression, but as she wasn't looking at him I didn't see the point.
THAT, and if you read the chapter of fic that inspired it, it's sort of a moment of wonder for her. SHE is dancing! With HIM! And I wanted that to show... somehow.
But. Totally unrelated. WHICH Cumberbatch is Seb? Crazy wavy hair Sherlock? Or the slicked back Khan look. I must know.

LOL I think it's simply because I really get why you smitten Hiddlestone so much. I mean, why not? He is handsome, charismatic and crazy awesome actor!
by the way have you seen YouTube video where he is dancing? The guy is really have some moves! After watching it I bet you will love him even more
Ooh honey, there always will be another chances to draw them again! I always have great time reviewing your artworks
And about Sebastian's hair style, I guess it's both, crazy wavy when he is just relaxing at home (or in Harper's house when he is in recovery) but NOT as long as Sherlock. And Khan's style when he is in professional mode ^^

Ha! How could I not find those vids? They were mixed into his funniest moments videos. But seriously, the clip that started me down the rabbit hole has to be the Hall H stuff. I just loved him in that, and the way the crowd responded to him was so crazy infectious.
I'm taking a very short break from my favorite god in order to work on a few things for others, but I am certain there will be more of him, and more "Lokane/Astrofrost" crackshippy goodness in general, too. I like what I like and I can be pretty unapologetic about it.
Okay... I can work with that. I have been studying and trying to figure out how I want to tackle it.

Oh wow I love the green of her dress, it looks so shiny!Β I also really like how you left the dancing figures in the back as sort of sepia shades of motion so we focus more on the figures in the front

Thanks. I really wanted to practice a backgrounds with watercolours, and I think this came close to achieving the effect I was going for. As to the dress... I got a little carried away...

I think it's great the colours are fantastic too, they're just bright enough to stand out but not too bright to distract

What's to say?
I wanted to practice with watercolours, couples in motion, backgrounds, lighting, Β and hands all at once, WHILE also try nail down my "style" in how I render from real life photos. I think I pulled most of that together here... though I was more pleased with it before I saw it on the screen.

I think it's great. Watercolor is VERY VERY tricky. I also think you did a fine job with background, lighting, and just over all, everything. I know how difficult it could be to draw a pose like this but I do think you nailed it. The background is also really creative, I think. It's detailed, but not so detailed that it takes away from the main focus at the center. That's hard to pull off~

CMBaggs In reply to User-2018225d [2014-02-03 14:48:39 +0000 UTC]
Well, that was in fact, what I was hoping to achieve with the background. And since I lack practice in that department... it tends to be a little tricky. Also, trying to nail the idea of lighting. With watercolours it can be tricky as you need to leave the page white, rather than as on a digital piece where you can lighten later. You need to have real foresight. I know I could use masking fluid... but I dunno... I really like the idea of learning to work without it, even if it is harder.

Wow, now I'm even more impressed. Lighting and stuff is so hard all on its own, but with water color. (I HATE watercolors..).

You HATE them?? But hate is such a strong word! And they're so, so, so beautiful!
Okay... I'm a wee bit biased.
