The overlay and soft light layers pushed the shadow by his cheek way too much, or rather maybe I should've just cut back a bit on that one part heh. The soft gradients over the lower half, upper left, and orange gradients on the right were added literally at the last minute; I was mostly happy with how it ended up as a neck-up head shot but felt like the gradients might help ease parts of the image in a bit more and give the eye some areas to rest a bit easier, more transition rather than stark contrasts.

I suck at edge lighting, it's something I really should incorporate into more of my pieces and scenes but I just forget about it most of the time and doesn't dawn on me until I see another piece that has it and think "dammit, that's a good idea!" I figured I had a few minutes going into the home stretch so I figured I could either finagle more detail work on the face or give a super quick shot at hitting some edge lighting and I'm glad I gave it a try. It's nowhere near perfect but I like how the progress came around, hitting the edges hard and then smudging in areas to give it a little more heft and volume.
