Description
The day was peacefully quiet. It was a relaxing evening in the household. Rudo and Kil were in their room caring and grooming their mother's Runeboo and their little sister's Coatala. Even though the Coatala has a tendency to give them trouble around the house, it usually halts its antics when Hershey and Jane are around. The brothers were also accompanied by their own pets as well while they were caring for their mother and little sister's pet. It was a pleasant bonding time for all of them...Meanwhile, Jane was in her room accompanied by her daughter watching her practice with fire magic. This time, manipulating the flame. Albeit, a small one to avoid... accidents. Hershey watched in amazement as her mother controls the motions of the flame. It was mesmerizing to watch. And rather soothing...
She quietly watched her mother manipulate the motion of the flame, until a particular thought that has been on her mind caused her to break the silence...
"Hey, mama? I've been wondering..."
"Hm? What is it, Hershey?"
"You and Kid have been friends for a long time, right?"
"That's right"
"How come you didn't mention him previously before you introduced me to him?"
"O-Oh. Well... Uh. How can I put this...? A... difficult circumstance came up in his life. And it... was very, very unexpecting. It made it hard for him to ever come and see me as a result of it. We used to hang out regularly up until that happened. It made me sad that I wasn't going to see him for who knows how long... Oh!"
Jane paused to catch the flame when she saw that she nearly lost her focus, almost causing it to flow in a different direction. As soon as she regained her senses and control on the flame, she cleared her throat and continued.
"But uh, yes. Because of that I wasn't able to see him for quite some time. Why do you ask, dear?"
A silly grin stretched on the brown wyngling's face.
"It's just that ever since you two have started hanging out again you've been really, and I mean really happy, mama. I can tell he means a lot to you"
"Oh, well I wouldn't say that... I mean...! We've known each other since we were kids, after all. I guess it's only natural that someone you've known the longest is someone you'll always find yourself being happier around. T-That's what I think, at least..."
There was a short moment of silence before Hershey spoke up again.
"Hey, mama?"
"Yes, Hershey?"
"Do you love him?"
"Huh...? Come again?"
"Kid. Do you love him?"
"Do I..."
The question alone made her reflect all the way back on her feelings for him. To the point she remembered where her and Kid used to claim that they'd never really see each other as a couple. Or being together at all for that matter. But when she heard her daughter ask her that question, suddenly she remembered that time when she found herself feeling unable to keep her feelings bottled up months after her and Kid went their separate ways. And when she desperately felt that she needed to tell him something, she wrote it. In the form of a Heartkindle letter...
Looking back at it, Jane recalls that she more or less acted on her impulse due to her emotional state at the time. Unable to differentiate if she meant it or not. Seeing how much of a wreck she was back then it was something she desperately wanted to tell him to his face.
At the time, she had no idea if she was serious or not when she wrote the letter. But now, since Hershey asked the question, she felt her heart racing at the thought of him. Looking back at how happy she's been these past several months ever since they reunited. The easing comfort of his presence, his admittedly silly quick-witted remarks, his charming yet handsome smile that he'd give her... the more she thought about his traits, the faster her heart would beat. And at the realization of what it could mean...
